George Zimmerman's friend's book offers starkly different account of Trayvon Martin's death
The Miami Herald ^ | September 21, 2012 | Frances Robles

MIAMI — Trayvon Martin grabbed his killer’s gun just moments before he died and uttered a profanity-laced threat. In a desperate life-or-death struggle, George Zimmerman clutched Trayvon’s wrist, broke his grip on the semi-automatic firearm and shot him once in the chest.

That account appears in a new book written by Zimmerman’s best friend and confidante.

There’s just one problem: Zimmerman never said that to the police.

Now the book, Defending Our Friend: The Most Hated Man in America, and author Mark Osterman’s two television interviews have landed on the prosecution evidence list, as more versions of Zimmerman’s story emerge. A man who wrote a book calling Zimmerman “the kindest and most sincere” person will wind up in court — for the prosecution, experts agree.

>snip<

Defense attorney Mark O’Mara said he had never heard about a struggle for the gun. He said he read a draft of the book before it was published, but felt asking Osterman to change details would amount to witness tampering.

>snip<

Although he questioned whether Osterman’s memory is accurate, O’Mara admitted that between Zimmerman’s various interviews to police, his father and brother’s accounts to the press and now Osterman’s, there are several versions of what happened that night, but he characterized the discrepancies as a surmountable obstacle. If everyone’s story was exactly the same, O’Mara said, then it would smack of a lie.

O’Mara said it took him 10 days to respond to the book draft after he received it, but when he got around to asking Osterman to scrap the book, the publishing contract had already been signed. O’Mara chalked it up to miscommunication, adding that Zimmerman has taken a court’s “no contact with witnesses” order to heart, and has not spoken to any state witnesses

In Zimmerman's videotaped interrogation, he describes and acts out a situation where Martin never touched Zimmerman's gun.

Zimmerman says that Martin had one hand closing Zimmeman's nose and one over his mouth, cutting off his breath, when Zimmerman's jack and shirt shifting, exposing his gun.

Martin saw it and told Zimmerman it was his night to die.

As Martin slid one hand down Zimmerman's chest/side, Zimmerman's trapped it against his own side with his upper arm/elbow, then pulled the gun and shot Martin.

All of those "NO MARTIN DNA ON GUN'S GRIP!" headlines the other day should have said "NO MARTIN DNA ON GUN'S GRIP SUPPORTS ZIMMERMAN'S STORY!"

Here's the video of Zimmerman's police interrogation in which he describes and demonstrates Martin's reach for Zimmerman's gun - and how he trapped Martin's hand before it reached the handgun.

MIAMI — Trayvon Martin grabbed his killer’s gun just moments before he died...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wish to God these clowns would stop referring to Mr. Zimmerman as a “killer”.
Are you a killer if you put down a sick or injured animal? This is inflammatory.
Or, the neighbor-down-the-street-who-was-awakened-by-blue-lights-just-hundreds-of-yards-from-the-scene’s ad hoc personal account of the racist trauma....If I were black, and could post it here, you all know what I’d say..... it would end with ....Please!
Well, yes you are. One who kills is "a killer." Basic English.
Sometimes killing is necessary or justified (and sometimes it is not), but pretending it isn't killing or calling it something else doesn't change the nature of the act.
The point is...
The left is labeling Zimmerman is a killer in an attempt to smear his character.
Correct.
However, he IS a killer. By his own admission, he killed Martin. Euphemisms won’t change that.
I don’t know exactly what happened that night. Nobody but Zimmerman knows, because he killed the only other person present. And, frankly, his recollections may not be totally accurate, due to the stress of the situation and the natural human tendency to replay events in our minds in ways that become steadily more favorable to us over time.
I think the evidence leans toward that killing being justified, but we do not and cannot KNOW what happened.
Also, you might want to reconsider comparing Mr. Martin to a sick or injured animal. Entirely the wrong analogy, as it implies mercy killing.
The better comparison for Z, if you must compare M to an animal, is one that is vicious or perhaps rabid.
It’s clear to me, from all the evidence we have seen and heard so far, that Zimmerman killed Trevon Martin in self-defense.
I think it is pretty open and shut.
The presecutor will try and use discrepancies to question Zimmerman’s credability...but all of them are reallyt the same. Martin attacked Zimmerman, sucker punched him, goot him on the ground and beat his head against the ground, got on top of him and beat him, and all stories include some kind of account of Martin seeing the gun, going for it, telling Zimmerman he was going to die, and Zimmerman getting the gun and shooting Martin.
I pray this comes before a good Jury who will rule on the evidence and not on emotion or some attempt at social equity...whcih should not apply in any case.
Then by your logic, we could call him “neighborhood defender” or “assault victim” and be just as accurate right? So why aren’t those terms used?
THAT is the question.
When the story first broke, the narrative from Big Media was that Zimmerman, a white man, probably a racist, saw a small black kid walking down a street, ran up to the kid, and acting on his racist motivations, without warning, gunned Martin down. Now the defense is admitting that Martin had Zimmerman on his back and was beating him and slamming his head into the sidewalk. Zimmerman’s cranial lacerations prove that. If Zimmerman’s attorney has any brains, he’ll relate these shifting narratives to the jury. If Zimmerman can get a fair jury, he should be acquitted.
If Zimmerman can get a fair jury, he should be acquitted.
He may be acquitted before that unless the prosecution is able to turn over to the defense the cell phone tower pings that would prove that their star witness DeeDee actually spoke with Martin that night on their cell phones.
They are easy to get and are substantive proof of cell phone transmission.
If there are no cell tower pings for those calls, then they didn't occur and the prosecution team may find itself in a little trouble.
Has the drug analysis of Trayvon’s autopsy been released yet?
The prosecution says that the toxicology report was included in the autopsy but the autopsy report says that it wasn’t. The prosecution is sandbagging the exculpatory evidence including the cell phone tower pings.
I do not understand this story. Zimmerman told the police what happened. The evidence so far backs what he told police.
Some guy writes a book that says something different from what Zimmerman told police. That story would completely exonerate Zimmerman if it were true. But it wasn’t a story Zimmerman told.
So why would this guy be a good prosecution witness? What difference would it make what some guy who didn’t see the attack says about what happened? SO far as I know, there is no law against writing a book with lies in it — if so, OBama would be in prison for his two “biographies”.
You're right.
As far as I know the entire book could only be presented as hearsay evidence -- which would be meaningless.
None of it was dictated or written under oath -- so of no value in a court of law.
And what he claims about the struggle for the gun is countered by the forensic evidence -- the absence of Trayvon's DNA on the handle.
What I find disturbing is that this France Robles, probably for the first time in her life, attacks a Hispanic man wrongly accused of a crime
You can bet if Zimmerman was a Criminal Illegal Alien....Robles would be going all La Raza Hispano-Racist in defending him. But, since he has a Jewish-sounding name....she is going to side with the Black Racists
George Zimmerman is innocent...the kid was attacking him when he shot. If Trayvon Martin was white...Zimmerman would be a free man right now
Oh, and I would love to be picked for that jury....
