6 Unconventional Uses for your Dishwasher [MUST READ the comments]

It takes the right mix of ingenuity and desperation to discover new uses for old tools, but whoever first tried steaming a salmon fillet in their dishwasher must’ve been drunk. For folks who are curious about what else their kitchen contraptions can do, here’s a rundown of the most unconventional uses for your home dishwasher.

Steam Fish Fillets

The best part about steaming fish in your dishwasher—other than novelty of steaming fish in your dishwasher—is how simple it is. All you need to do is season a cut of your favorite fish, wrap it (tightly!) in aluminum foil, place it in the top rack, and allow it to run through an entire normal cycle. There’s no single recipe that works best; just make sure you wrap it tight enough to keep water out. Also, don’t forget to engage the dry cycle, and for the love of fish don’t load the detergent! If you’re feeling extra adventurous, check out these recipes for dishwasher lasagna and dishwasher potatoes. There’s a whole culture of dishwasher chefs with too much time on their hands!

Wash Baseball Caps

Baseball caps can fade and become misshapen in traditional washing machines. So instead of washing them that way, try loading them in the top rack of your dishwasher and running it on a full cycle. Of course, you don’t want to run the machine with dirty dishes in it; this will just spray food all over your precious Diamondbacks hat.

For fledgling roller derby enthusiasts, you can also clean knee pads, shin guards, and other sports equipment in your dishwasher. But we don’t recommend putting your jock strap in there. That’s just gross.

I put all sorts of things in there, like metal screen filters from over the stove, glass and metal refrigerator shelving, Rubbermaid wastebasket lids, etc.

A quarter cup (1/4 cup) of white vinegar is a good substitute for fabric softener in the clothes washer.

It neutralizes most odors that got through the washing cycle.

That is pretty funny. Tensions are rising I guess. I was at a local hardware store and the owner was arguing with an obama supporting customer. He knew he could lose a customer but he said he can’t take it any more. Looks like I’ll be doing more business with him, especially since I’ve stopped going to Homo Depot.

I washed the keyboard to my computer in my diswasher. It wasn’t my original idea, I read it someplace. It worked just fine.

Cooked (heated) many a c-rat strapped on the manifold with a hose clamp of my M151A2 jeep back in the day. Make sure you vent the can first though.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of baked on black grease marks on pats and pans? Also the bottom of the pans look cloudy. I can’t figure out how to get rid of it.

Yet another dish washer use is taking old surplus rifle
stocks and after removing the barrel, reciever, etc...
and running the stock through the washer. Really
pulls out the cosmo. I would not recommend for
nicer stocks just beaters. And do only when wife is not
around.

I was at a Barnes & Noble the other day and an elderly leftist was droning on and on about the "Republican deficit" to two store clerks. They were both clearly Obama fans but they had the look of trapped rats - clearly they had been listening to this old coot repeating the same angry talking points for hours.

They almost broke their necks racing to the register to wait on me.

“I recently started adding white vinegar because stuff was coming out so spotted.”

Do you live in a nanny state that has banned phosphates? That’s the stuff in dish washing detergent that actually cleans dishes.

By the way, you can also wash your key board in a dish washer, take it out before the dry cycle and let it drain dry. Yes, I have successfully done it.

Fortunately, my circle of friends and family are very conservative. I can’t believe anyone is supporting obama, I guess it’s God’s will.
