America: 50 States in 50 Photos

In the past, I've composed many photo essays that took viewers on virtual tours of distant countries. Today, I decided to do the same thing, but focus closer to home, collecting one recent photograph from each of the 50 states in the United States of America. The photographs are not necessarily meant to represent the whole of any state. They are simply interesting, noteworthy, beautiful, or otherwise caught my eye. Sit back and enjoy a quick jaunt around the USA in 50 photographs from mid-2012.

Self descriptive. 50 states in 50 photos, some great some not but its an interesting diversion on an arthritic early autumn morning.

Graphics heavy, duh.

Those are mostly very good.

I think the little boy throwing the first pitch is the best of them all. Amazingly adorable!

I also did like the NYC shot of the two gals watching the fireworks. That was a nice shot.

The formation flying photo was good too. Some are more representative of the state than others. The bridge walk is a good representation of a purely Michigan tradition.

A couple more photo links that are good.

“Some are more representative of the state than others.”

Yes, that was true. I also felt like there was more than one Arkansas, but maybe I always feel that way....at least since Clinton!

I know that people always think of Detroit when they think of Michigan but where I live is nothing like Detroit.

Agreed! The photo of the little pitcher would make a nice substitute for Clemons in the famous set of photos showing Clemons, then W, then Miss America, then 0 making a pitch.

I haven’t lived in NY since ‘74, but the southern tier (below Rochester) also has some beautiful country. During Fall time you can drive 15 down through the foothills and take postcard picture forever.

Reuters propaganda, no thanks.

A cowboy rides his horse through town as he watches a Cinco de Mayo celebration in Beardstown, Illinois, on May 6, 2012. There are approximately 900 immigrant workers from 34 countries employed in Beardstown at the Cargill meat packing plant and most are willing to work hard at just about anything for a better life in the United States. While both longtime community residents and immigrants agree that most people accept the newcomers, the beginnings were rocky and some problems still remain. (Reuters/Jim Young)
