Sports Vanity: Can the New Orleans Saints be considered as the worst team in the NFL?

Posted on 09/24/2012 10:05:04 AM PDT by fourth and three

They are 0-3, and have lost all 3 games whose only victory came against them.

BTW, I say this as a life long saints fan.

’Aints, part deux? Get a paper bag and start cutting eyeholes.

Coaching makes a difference (hear that Jerry Jones?)

Interesting question, but I think the Cleveland Browns might still be holding on to #32 in the power poll.

GMTA...exactly my first thought, guess the OP didn’t think the bad times might come back and threw away his bag from the last iteration of the ‘Aints.

Well, they lost to the Chefs didn’t they?

Well they could be considered it. But they’re actually playing pretty good football, they’re just not playing it for 60 minutes and that gives their opponents a shot. Meanwhile there’s still the Browns, Bills and Dolphins, who aren’t playing good football even when they win.

As a non-Saints fan, I say that the NFL torched the team - undertainty about their coaches, their defense (which lingers) has destroyed any chance at getting things properly ready for the season. That said, their own failure to get their QB signed in a timely manner didn’t help either.

They will probably get it together - if their defense can do something. But this will be a lost season for them.

I’m still scratching my head as to how the Cowboys are 2-1, with that atrocious offensive line they have.

While I think the Saints would be much better had they been left intact, sometimes teams just get old overnight....and that’s what may have happened here. The Patriots aren’t afraid of ditching players who brought them past success in favor of bringing in new blood, that’s why they remain competitive year after year. The Saints have had a pretty good five-year run, but an overhaul may be due.

No, not the worst. Way too early to tell.

Also, you have an SB winning QB on your team. “Worst” teams don’t have very good QBs (and no, Archie Manning’s Saints were never a “worst” team, that would have been the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in that era.)

The Defense is so-so this year. The offense sucks. If they could have managed one first down in the fourth quarter yesterday, they would likely have won. Two would have made it a sure thing. This is from a 26 year Saints fan. Oddly enough, their best game last year came when Sean could not coach. They have completely lost their focus.

Well they were inspired against the Giants. And the Bucs stink. I’m trying to figure out how my Steelers keep finding ways to dominate every aspect of a game except the score board.

Who woulda thunk the only unbeatens would be the Cardinals, Falcons and Texans.

A Cardinals-Texans SB is not out of the question.

The bottom line is to win a title, you need depth, and teams can do a 180 from how they start out, in the second half of the season, because they can better handle the “War of Attrition” that is an NFL season. So it’s pretty tough right now to predict how the rest of the season will go.

Well, they did lose to my Griefs yesterday, but you do have a Super Bowl victory during your lifetime, so it’s not that bad.

Sweet...an NFL thread without graphics overload.

The radio guys here in KC were in full rant mode after the Chiefs dismal showing at Buffalo last week. The win in NO probably brought a couple of them back from the edge.

Losing McCluster and having a guy play center who hadn’t played before definitely made the game a nailbiter for fans here.

I would have expected the Saints to “circle the wagons” like the Penn State football team has.....frankly Penn State is playing much better than I expected, because the guys that stayed there have taken on an “Us Against the World” mentality....but it’s clear the Saints didn’t do that.
