Q: Would a “list of Republican budget cuts” by the “new Republican House” slash $2.5 trillion from federal spending over 10 years?
A: The list is real. But so far, there has been no action on the bill, which was sponsored by 33 conservative GOP House members.

On the list: * John C. Stennis Center Subsidy — $430,000 annual savings.
Of course the dems will be against this cut even though Mrs O kind of mentioned Stennis in her rant the other day. Maybe the money is for chairs!?!
During her speech she told the story pasted below. What she forgot to mention was that the committee chairman was a DEMOCRAT, John Stennis, chairman from 1969-1981. But I’m sure the lefty press will be reporting that fact straight away. /s

For example, back in the early ‘70s, Congressman Ron Dellums was appointed to the Armed Services Committee — (applause) — as was Congresswoman Pat Schroeder. Displeased about having both a woman and an African American assigned to his committee, the chairman at the time added just one seat to the committee room — and he forced the two of them to share it. But Congressman Dellums was unphased. He said to Congresswoman Schroeder, “Let’s not give these guys the luxury of knowing they can get under our skin. Let’s sit here and share this chair as if it’s the most normal thing in the world.” (Laughter.)

* Eliminate death gratuity for Members of Congress.
A “death gratuity” is paid to the surviving spouse and/or children of a member of Congress who dies in office. The amount is equal to a year’s pay, according to the Congressional Research Service. For example, a $136,700 payment was added to a fiscal year 2000 appropriations bill for the wife of Rep. George E. Brown Jr., of California, a Democrat who served 18 terms in Congress (four from 1963-1971 and 14 from 1973-1999, when he died).
Separate legislation, including a bill sponsored by Rep. Bill Posey of Florida, has been proposed to eliminate the “death gratuity.” No action has been taken on that bill, either.
FACTCHECK.ORG LOOKED AT THIS CANDIDATE FOR CUTS:
“$1 billion in “unpaid taxes by federal employees.”
That’s accurate. The Washington Post wrote about it in January: “About 98,000 federal, postal and congressional employees owed $1.03 billion in unpaid taxes at the end of fiscal 2010, according to records provided by the Internal Revenue Service.”
Jordan’s bill and a similar bill introduced by Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah would allow the federal government to fire federal employees with “seriously delinquent tax debt.” By a 263-114 vote, the House passed Chaffetz’s bill in July, and it has been referred to the Senate.
(Question: What’s Harry Reid doing with this bill?)

FACTCHECK.ORG does not dispute the above list of proposed cuts, but makes the following observation:
So, yes, the list of “Republican budget cuts” is real. But historically it has been difficult to make such deep cuts in the budget, and some of the proposed cuts go further than even the Republican leaders so far have been willing to support.

Obviosly they haven’t been. If the rest of us decide not to pay our taxes this year, can we demand equal protection under the law since the tax law is not being enforced on federal workers?

Other eliminations would include all boards, commissions, committees and quasi-official agencies.
I am positive I can live without all that government.

Well, we can start by going back to the 2008 PRE-FINANCIAL CRISIS budget and work from there.
All these over a trillion dollars spending and deficit came about as a result of the housing meltdown and the crisis in Wall Street.
Why are we now making this deficit a permanent state of affairs?
Many people don’t realize this or even know this... but the US budget deficit was SHRINKING every year up to 2007 ( when the Dems took over both houses in Congress ). By 2007, the deficit was a mere $160 billion.
Yep, that was under the hated George W. Bush and we were also fighting two wars then.
