Word For The Day, Wednesday, September 26, 2019-- neologism
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
hear it pronounced
1. a new word, meaning, usage, or phrase.
2. the introduction or use of new words or new senses of existing words.
3. a new doctrine, especially a new interpretation of sacred writings.
4. Psychiatry. a new word, often consisting of a combination of other words, that is understood only by the speaker: occurring most often in the speech of schizophrenics.
Origin: [Greek, combining form of néos; akin to new+ -logism, from Greek logos word, saying]
neologistic, neologistical, adjective
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Put on your thinking caps.
Here you go, early birds!
If anyone wants on (or off) the PING LIST, please let me know.
Sodom Hussein Obama
You're the first one in, and we are off to a great start!
The current occupant of the White House does seem a little fast and loose with the truth. Not that the mainstream media would ever call him on it.
I just noticed that the bronze medal is way bigger than the silver. As the Clairol ad in North Korea asks: “Is it true bronze have more fun?”
it’s ok if you like me best ; )
A+++ for pre-colonoscopy ritual. If we can eliminate Obama as well, you'll earn a fourth +.
Are you channeling the Smothers Brothers?
After redistiricting, I would hope so.
Whatever you do, do not look at the latest state polls out of Quinipiac. They are absolutely horrid.
Amon the neologisms for this political year are Fauxcahontas and Lieawatha for the Fake Indian, Elizabeth Warren.
The shameless Ms. Warren has definitely given Scott Brown supporters something to squawk about.
Libs always engage in neology-
It’s intrinsic to their ideology.
Label one group or other,
Pitting man vs. brother
All to foster a sense of “me-ology.”
I do love a good limerick.
Well, like the supposed neocon’s the democrats are always blaming for the world’s woe, I guess the democrats’ neoilogism energy “strategy” is also lacking oil. And logic.
.......Twitchy is on it.
Very clever, using the word itself in your example.
i am not an eeyore and i am not dispirited by polls, this is even up, regardless of what the polls show and will come down to turnout. i emailed my good friend in FL and sent her whatever demoralizing BS article that was in the NY times and said, you better be prepared to haul every person you know who is a Romney voter to the polls on election day.
oh for God’s sake, she looks fantastic.
Romney goes for the jugular, or in Obama's case the jugears.
I think she looks svelte. Very glamorous.
anecdotal uplift for Eyeores:
my paralegal was just in here. she’s the one from PGH, with dem family galore in PA. she had said her brother in PA while not voting for Obama could not vote for Romney. Well she just spoke to him, he’s now voting FOR romney. she’s going to call her aunt tomorrow to make sure she’s still on board. she is doing her best to steer her relatives to the romney reservation.
63 year old MS sufferer and she looks like a model. how dare they rag on her.
Is she wearing black leather like a biker chick?
I doubt it’s leather, lace wouldn’t look right on leather. I am betting Mitt liked that outfit. I think she looks pretty hot, compared to say...oh, the hildebeast? Her long hair is always styled, unlike hill’s. Face it, the libs hate her because she is hot like most Rep women and unlike most lib women.
Good because what I’m observing from the O camp, and other Dems, is that brutal negative ads seem effective. It’s all the Dems are doing.
She’s a fake lawyer, too!!!!
Now where are the neologisms for the fake Christian and fake President, Barack Hussein obama?
Do non-Jews have as much trouble pronouncing "svelte" with one syllable as they do "kvetch." Or is it all "sa-velte" like "ka-vetch?"
I can say svelte just fine, but I am not as smooth with kvetch. Now that you mention it, I can say the two of them over and over and it’s getting easier.
My niece is adopted and originally from South Korea. When she went away to college other Asian students would walk up to her, but when they heard her American voice would back off. They labeled her the FakAsian. That was her nickname. The FakAsian. It was said with fondness, not in a mean way.
I am amazed that we don’t have more but there are some: TOTUS, theOne, 0, theWon, Jug Ears....
i have no trouble with sv or kv proper pronunciation. you are hanging with gringos up there!
xsboy has received his absentee ballot up at SU. i reminded him that he needs to mail that in, as well as his RENT CHECK, which he’s not accustomed to paying and has been late on and hence had to pay a late fee last month!
When I said “svelte kvetch” three times fast, the last time it sounded like “Susan Sarandon.”
Are clueless young people attending institutes of higher learning “studiots”?
Obama’s minions are practicing
Neologism on a scale grand-
Making a new meaning for every
Turn of a phrase or a hand
“Golf” means you are a racist
Just because of golf pro Woods
And “profit” means you’re greedy
For selling a service or goods
“Terrorist” means hating Arabs
And all which that implies-
But if you’re smart, that nonsense
Should promptly open your eyes...
Outstanding! We're well on our way to 1984's Newspeak.
Thank you! “I love big brother”-not...
If you have not read Ira Levin’s “This Perfect Day”, you might give it a look-similar premise of humanity ruled by evil-in this case, a computer (and its programmers), two members of a defiant underground group fall in love, etc happy ending, but scary s***.
I would want to go up there and mail it for him!
My own made-up word is sluttoo, as in Madonna’s back ink is also called a sluttoo.
I like TatHo myself.
A++++ for each of your neologistic efforts concerning tramp stamps.
I like that take on her tats, but “tramp stamp” still comes to mind...
This talk of Nazi-like and Communist social engineering gave me an obscure funk earworm from the early 80’s-
“Zwei, drei, vier
One, two, three
Its easy to see
But its not that I don’t care so
‘Cause I hear it all the time
But they never let you know
On the TV and the radio
She was young her heart was pure
But every night is bright she got
She said sugar is sweet
She come rappin’ to the beat
Then I knew that she was hot
She was singin’
Don’t turn around, uh-oh
Der Kommissar’s in town, uh-oh
You’re in his eye
And you’ll know why
The more you live
The faster you will die
Alles klar, Herr Kommissar?”
I wonder how many still do the “bump” on the dance floor?
Someone told me that the original song was made by a German group, in that language.
You beat me to that by minutes...
(Great Minds Trampstamp Alike.)
Yes. I have the mp3 of the German language original. There’s a smattering of English in it.
