Let's start with the facts: Eric Holder is covering up something with Fast and Furious. Obama has supported him (for now) with the ridiculous and unsupportable claim of executive privilege.
Okay, now to the speculation... we know a coverup is occurring. What we don't is who is covering whom. There are two good guesses as to what is going on (which aren't mutually exclusive). The most commonly assumed is that Eric Holder knew everything and Obama is covering for him. The more intriguing is that Obama knew about it and he's really covering for himself with Holder's help.
Here's where Holder has an issue: Obama has explicitly or implicitly held out a Get Out of Jail Free card... the presidential pardon. No matter what happens, he's been promised a way out no matter how bad it gets. And if it doesn't get too bad, he can ride his government pension and hit the speaking circuit for years. (Of course this is MUCH worse than whatever deal they had earlier like a position on a bench somewhere... maybe even the supreme court.)
Eric's fate depend on the election... and whatever reformational zeal the new congress brings in. In four years, if Obama wins, the furor will probably have died down and he will not be up for re-election. If he loses, however, the situation is more interesting. The 'card' only works if Holder is in prison because you can't get a pardon if you haven't been convicted.
If Romney, Ryan and the other 'R's want to earn their credentials as reformers, they need to push this investigation to the utter end and wipe out the presidential privilege argument. There's plenty of evidence to put Holder in prison even without the paperwork he's hidden if a new counsel not under his control is doing the investigation. If Holder is covering for Obama, this would destroy whatever remaining legacy Barack has left.
So, right now, Holder has to stick by his bad decisions of the past and hope that Obama wins the election so that he can retire quickly (anything better than that is out of the question now) or, as is more likely, that the Republicans are willing to let him get off easy if Romney wins.
NO OTHER EXPLANATION IS CREDIBLE.
Because of Inter-Agency Cooperation.
I believe the author is incorrect about a pardon being no good if the individual hasn’t been convicted. Richard Nixon received a blanket pardon from Gerald Ford, even though Nixon had not been convicted of a crime, much less spent time in jail.
most presidents try to put together the best team they can but Obama chose pals in most cases.
I expect that when Ø is handing out pardons, he will issue one for Witholder in advance of any possible conviction(s). If he does, then Ø needs to be houded for the rest of his life for crimes against the United States while in office. Keep hitting him until something sticks. Capone was gotten for tax evasion. Anything’s possible.
“you can’t get a pardon if you haven’t been convicted”
I don’t believe this is true. Nixon got a pardon - was he convicted of something?
I vote for the self covering choice. The kenyan does not hesitate to throw close colleagues “under the bus” if said individuals become liabilities. Holder would be no different unless throwing out that particular trash would expose the kenyan’s own dirty underwear. Some blackmail might be involved here, implied or explicit.
Holder has to stick by his bad decisions of the past and hope that Obama wins the election,
Jail time toensue.
They both knew what was going on and they’re helping each other cover it up.
You (and others) are of course correct. This did happen but I'm not sure whether it would have stood up in court. IMO, he was basically saying, "Just don't go here because I'll invalidate it immediately." I am, however, not a lawyer of any sort, heh.
That would be an admition of guilt on both Holder and Obambi’s part and would kill the democrat party
When the Pubbies let a rapist POTUS get off totally free....they lost their balls.
