There are some jobs that just don't attract as much attention as others.
For example, telling someone you're a mechanic probably isn't going to get as much curious glances as telling them you're a pilot.
But sometimes, these underrated jobs are more fulfilling because of the "high growth, low stress and rewarding opportunities" that come with them.
“The pay is better, the hiring outlook is better, the level of stress tends to be lower, and the physical demands aren’t that great,” said Tony Lee, publisher at CareerCast.com. However, you "never saw a movie about a civil engineer or a TV show starring a computer-systems analyst."
CareerCast recently published a list of the most underrated jobs in America based on their "increasing opportunities and rewarding potential for job seekers," yet they usually don't have the glamour aspect attached to them as more overrated jobs do.
To create this list, CareerCast used data from surveys that looked at "recent social and economical impact on specific industries" along with data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

What a crock. With a glut of underemployed/unemployed lawyers in this country, we are told that being a legal assistant is viable. LOL
Pittsburgh has a great school (PTI) just west of town which, among other things, trains aircraft mechanics. They enjoy nearly a 100% job placement rate with our nearby airport being a comparably cheap place to park planes and get them worked on ever since U.S. Air closed their hub here eight years ago.
Good legal assistants are in high demand and law firms often raid their competition to hire away their cream.
Maybe in Pittsburgh, then. Not Chicago.
I’ve been telling lots of people with an average education to go into mechanics, welding, plumbing, electrician, heavy equipment operator, and machine operator for years!
But no-0-0! My future son in law decided to go into...Philosophy!
My daughter at least works in Veterinary medicine, and the other daughter works at the main office for a large retailer near here as a buyer.
LOL - my middle son majored in Philosophy, too...I “feel” your pain. :-)
unless you have your own office and build up a clientele very quickly, a legal assistant or paralegal is not that lucrative....
I have the most fulfilling job on the planet. I design nuclear powered whaling stations.
a person MUST go into a field that interests him/her or it won't work. My doctor has an engineering degree....my priest (both of them) also have engineering degrees.....they obviously weren't happy in their chosen profession so they switched.
Project leader. In my former ex company I saw several layoffs in IT and none of them touched the do nothing project leaders. Amazing.

haha, but with philosophy, he forgot to reason that he needs money for food to survive. Actually, this is quite funny. He degreed in something that defies logic in these times. A person normally has a variety of interests. He chose poorly.
Sorry, it’s a joke. Kind of in the line of the “Nuke the Whales”. But when I’m traveling (which is all the time), and I get talking to an obvious democrat chick at a bar (they always have those glasses), that is what I tell them that I do for a living :)
