I am done with Dick's Sporting Goods! (vanity)

Posted on 09/30/2012 8:04:53 AM PDT by Red in Blue PA

I was at Dick's this morning to buy some 223 ammo and was paying in cash. Before the checkout clerk would ring me out I had to tap Yes or No on the pad for the question of "Are you a US citizen"? None of the other gun stores I frequent ask this question......will be my last ever Dick's Sporting Goods purchase.

I went Kayaking with a gal, she took off her skirt and boy did she get wet!
Nothing gay about that.

Why? I think this is great. Who wants noncitizens buying firearms?

Given the depths to which the government will go to justify stripping people of the right to keep and bear arms -- IIRC, Obamacare makes it a felony not to have qualifying health insurance (and felons are prohibited from firearms [and ammo] -- I would not put it past them to [unilaterally] revoke people's citizenship and then claim that restrictions against non-citizens apply to these people.

An interesting -- even pragmatic -- solution. And probably workable.

Thanks.

When ever you but fire arms from some minimum wage rube in a big box store you can expect some silliness on the regulations.

Even in a good store some bullcrap can happen.
I recall my local vendor coming back from lunch and looking over some paper work, and shouting “Who sold the pistol to the raghead?”
I looked at the paper work and said *****, this guy is a citizen and he is a Sihk.
It’s cool.

"That is an INFRINGEMENT."

Hard to disagree with you on that point. But I would invite everyone to consider that the question would not stop illegals from buying ammo. All they would have to do is answer "YES" and walk away with the rocks.

Whoever put that question into the computer is an idiot who assumes that people are going to be honest. It smells like the work of just another Pollyanna brown-sky liberal twit.

Here we have another clash between personal freedom and limitation of powers of government (the bedrock upon which the Constitution is founded) on the one hand, and national security on the other. Clearly the government is horrible at providing for either, and inevitably devolves into just another form of tyranny when citizens concede on even a minor point.

And given the countless laws and executive orders passed by congress, the president, and the supreme court that tax us into slavery, take our land, force us to speak and to think in a certain manner, restrict our movements, and rob us of our entrepreneurial potential, can anyone with a whiff of common sense really say that our government has not become tyrannical?

Should illegal aliens be allowed to demonstrate for “equal rights?” Why is the 2nd Amendment treated differently than the others?

And here the is the truth brother.
That FFL asked you that stuff because he did not want the Feds to bust his ass for not dotting his i’s and crossing his t’s.

If anyone is being infringed on it is the poor FFL holder that has to jump through ridiculous hoops to stay clean with the Feds.

You want to see some infringement?
Take 3 rounds of 22 cal ammo across the border into mexico.
All hell will break loose if you are caught.
It could just be 3 loose rounds rolling around in the back of your truck that you didn’t even realize where there.

I would hardly call your scenario infringement.

Our 2nd amendment is to protect OUR rights, not foreigners rights, and the truth is we are damn kind to foreigners here.

No one would but Jose or HoseB in the Hoosegow for shooting at the pistol range.

Now if HoseB is drinking Tecate while he is shooting, he will be ushered away.

Target makes you give them your driver's license to scan first before they'll sell you BIC lighters or that compressed air in a can for cleaning dust off of your keyboard.

United States Code, Title 18, Section 922 (g)(5) makes it illegal for an illegal alien or an alien here on a non-immigrant visa to possess firearms or ammunition.

Good to know. Sounds like Dick's is practicing CYA. Sooner or later, there will be a crack down or an attempt. That foolishness with the UN isn't going away anytime soon either.

Forgive me for jumping in with a question.

The law quoted:

18 USC 922 (d) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise
dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or
having reasonable cause to believe that such person -

(5) who, being an alien -
(A) is illegally or unlawfully in the United States;

It sounds to me like this law (as written) prohibits me, a non FFL, from selling a gun to anyone without verifying their citizenship.

If so, when did private sales become illegal/restricted?

Thank you in advance for you response.

I was buying beer in Texas once and they wanted to scan my DL.
The clerk could clearly see that I was 50 years old and not a teen.

I said Really?
She insisted and said that it must be scanned.
Miffed, I gave it to her.
She said this license is 3 days expired (the state had not sent me a renewal notice)
I said it may be expired but it is a state document that clearly states my age.
She wasn’t buying it, she was a rube in a big box store.
I handed her my CHL and said is this a valid
State document?

Yessir.

Annoying, but hardly an infringement.

And quite frankly I could have walked across the street and made the purchase no questions asked.

Let illegals and foreigners go back to where they came from to get their ammo.
