Word For The Day, Monday, 10/1/12
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
behoove; verb used with object
1. to be necessary or proper for, as for moral or ethical considerations; be incumbent on: It behooves the court to weigh evidence impartially. 2. to be worthwhile to, as for personal profit or advantage: It would behoove you to be nicer to those who could help you.
Etymology: before 900; Middle English behoven, Old English behōfian to need ( behōf behoof + -ian infinitive suffix)
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with WFTD.
it would behoove us not to live and die by the polls.

No pushing at the door please!
good first of October to yinz.
It would behoove Mr. Romney to bring up the Lyin’ King’s utter and abject failure in foreign policy in the coming debates.
Morning. No sunshine here, but no rain, either. I am looking for a new book to read. Any suggestions?
I scanned the headlines....Obama is whomping Romney in the polls, yet the Obama campaign claims Romney will win the first debate. ????
“No pushing at the door, please!”
It ill behooves us to act like cattle.
xsbaby worked at the Fairfax Co.kids festival at the Romney booth and said they had a great reaction from people. our neighbor actually showed up to the booth looking for a sign and to help out, and she told him that she's been trying to take one over to him, but they haven't been home. so that means three of us at the top of the culdesac with Romney signs. they also had some very cool HOKIES for Romney bumperstickers which she got to send to xsboy's friends down at VaTech. They are done in the schools colors so they are really eyecatching. They had George Mason U PATRIOTS for romney and WAHOOS [UVA] for Romney as well.
hopefully he will. A+++ i don’t know if i can possibly watch it, my nerves are so on edge over the election stuff!
A+++ and keep your hooves to yourself ; )
The book is not available to U.S. customers on kindle. Dang. Looks good.
I am glad the excitement is there for Romney. I am hopeful.
the girls and i are leaving for Italy in 10 days. xshub’s organization is having a conference there, he doesn’t want to go but is letting us go in his stead. There is a papal audience on tap too, that the partnering law firm has arranged. we are not sure of what gradation of audience it is, whether it’s just in the square or a more personal one, so we are preparing for the most stringent and have 3 chapel veils ready to go. i sent xshub a video of papal audience etiquette in the offchance it’s a small group deal, for him to share with his staff. The entire rest of the group will be non-Catholic, but i want them apprised of etiquette so they don’t embarrass me!
Also i had been using Rosetta Stone Italian, and suddenly a few weeks ago it just wouldn’t load. I spent numerous hours online with their tech people trying to troubleshoot it. Finally yesterday they did a remote access where they took over my computer and after 2 hours and a clean reinstall of the software it finally works again, though it lost all of my progress. i was SOOOOO glad they could do the remote access, i didn’t even know that was possible! the prior hours spent with me trying to interpret what they were asking was a total waste, so much more efficient for them to go in and do it. it literally it took so long that i had xsbaby and xsteen’s boyfriend sitting there for me for periods of time so i could make dinner etc. and they could relay the guy’s questions, comments to me. Of course i was dealing directly with Mumbai! names like rangath, mansoor, and ghouse, were the three diff techs i dealt with!
the heck it isn’t, since i read it on Kindle! let me go look at it.
Well, it's only the hind feet, so ...
It’s about setting expectations so you can claim a victory. Only before a debate do your flacks go out and claim your opponent is a golden tongued genius and your guy is hopelessly inarticulate.
It behooves me to mention that the countdown to the wedding is 19 days and counting!
I see WVU finally played their first game in their new league — the Arena Football League.
If I were a defensive coordinator and my team scored nine touchdowns and we still lost, I would resign in disgrace.
i do not get it, how could it have been available on Kindle in the US this past summer, but yet not be available now?
Fast & Furious, Benghazi behoove
That the voters, from office, remove
The mendacious commie
And his daughters’ smug mommy
To my lib friends: What more must we prove?
who’s getting hitched??? A+++
Oh, I get that. I am just pointing out the obvious ineptness of their campaign.
Why, ME, of course!
It would "behoove" Obambi supporters not to put their signs where animals can critique them
continue to suck in precious oxygen....
well DANG, man, congrats! that’s a huge deal!!
A+++ i know, i can barely breathe myself for worrying over the entire thing.
I wondered about that as well. I found this:
Due to copyright restrictions, certain Kindle Titles are not available everywhere. If the country or region displayed is incorrect, you may change it at http://www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle.
the “cover” of the Asta’s book that i read this summer was different than that shown there, but i still don’t get it. I read that the book was released in the US as “ann’s book” but was “asta’s book” in england. However, what i downloaded to my ipad was def Asta’s book.
It behooves Congress to do something about Fast and Furious which seems that it is spinning quickly out of control. Heads on pikes comes to mind.
Personally, I don’t know why Mexico hasn’t declared war on us. 65 deaths traced to Holder’s folly.
A+++ fast and furious, the libyan coverup. anyone else would be run out of town on a rail, but still he sits there well liked as ever. If he’s re-elected, i think it’s God’s judgment upon us.
and yes i am fully cognizant that it makes me sound like a pat robertson nutjob, but it’s truly what i believe.
These folks are on the ground in my old home state and they know what they're talking about....LS is a professor at one of the universities in the state and I'm pretty sure he has connections into the Republican machine in the Southern Ohio, Cincinnati region and those connections have information from throughout the state.
Make sure you take a long look at the Absentee ballot speadsheet, at the top of the post title, they have worked up and read through the post comments. It will take a while but its worth it.
Yeah that was something - I prefer scoring over the snoozefest where only the defense is used but that was pretty wild. I was telling my husband it is hard to imagine telling someone you scored 70 points and still lost. It was more like a bad basketball score.
I just read a new Grisham book that was unlike most of his law centered books. Sorry I’ve lost the name - it was about baseball. A boy growing up with a dad in the majors and betrayal - really good.
How exciting for you all! And that was very thoughtful of you to send the etiquette info - as a Protestant I would not know without looking up the info but would absolutely want to show the proper respect and in the rush and excitement of the trip some might not remember to check details themselves.
I told her that I couldn't believe how perfect everything was - the flowers, her dress, her hair - it was all perfect and she said, "yeah I planned it that way" lol
I am sorry to report that one of my granddaughters slipped so badly in math after 2 years at a prestigious Catholic school in Richmond (she's back in public school now) that she had to enroll in Mathnasium (a tutoring program). My daughter reports that most of the other students are Asian, Indian, etc. who all use Mathnasium as "fun". I should also report that my 99 year old mother seems to be totally in the care of Indian doctors in CA. I don't know if there are no Caucasian doctors left in my old home town, or if only the Indians take elderly patients.
I just know that our kids need to wake up and pay more attention to the core subjects in school, or they will be totally unemployable in the next 25 years.
To be, or not to behooved. That is the question.
This walk down the path is The Bride’s third, and my second.
Getting married on the beach, only family and close friends, lots of pics will follow.
Wow, that is awesome.
Here are some tips for visiting the Sistine Chapel. (Go early). Scroll down.
oh i am on that pinglist and know LS and am comforted by that whole thing. i am not panicked, i just never underestimate the stupidity of the voting public, and won’t rest until it’s over!
