Is this true about Obama's books

Posted on 10/01/2012 4:59:54 AM PDT by conservativesister

Received this morning in an email, does anyone know if all this is true. I suspect it is but I'm not about to buy any of his books to check.

From Dreams From My Father: "I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites."

From Dreams From My Father : "I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race."

From Dreams From My Father: "There was something about her that made me wary, a little too sure of herself, maybe and white."

From Dreams From My Father: "It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names."

From Dreams From My Father: "I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the blackman, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself: the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela."

And FINALLY .............. and most scary: From Audacity of Hope: "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

Not sure about the rest, but the last one is paraphrasing and taken out of context...although he certainly acts like it!

Thanks for posting.

Problem is , he is very direct in what he says and means, but many don’t take the time to reflect on what he stands for, and are afraid to call him on it.

Redistribution is a prime example of this. The evidence is there, but it gets glossed over due to “ like ability”

A crook is a crook, even though they may say “ I will give the money back”

This is more in-depth and explains much about his background we didn’t know before:

Snopes has an article on some of these quotes. Of course they try to debunk them. In the process, I learned that while some of the quotes were edited or taken out of context, that they still carried much of the meaning and intent of the quotes from the emails. Snopes had, in some cases, added lengthy explanations explaining very subtle context differences to make the email quotes seem more out of line than they actually were. I left my brief research with the feeling that Obama has not said these things on a Tuesday, but on Wednesday, and that was why Obama is still as pure as wind driven snow.

I read some of the above link that tried to debunk these quotes. Seems to be a ‘that’s what he said but not what he meant’ mentality.

Just cut and paste each one of those quotes into a Google search and you will get some excellent references on each.

That's because we don't possess the same off-the-charts level of intellect* that über-brain Obama does.

Nice work, but it is a fake quote.

It looks like they're a little different from his actual wording. That doesn't matter so much. The real problem is that some of them describe how he thought at a particular point in his life, or even how other people felt, not what he thought at another point in time or what he thinks now.

Factcheck's parsing of "stand with the Muslims" is nitpicking -- in talking about "Arab or Pakistani immigrants" Obama pretty clearly was talking about Muslims. But still, they are right that he made the statement in the context of referring to persecution, like the war-time internment of the Japanese, and not in some other context.
