How our cities might explode
Tactical Patriot ^ | 10/1/12 | Matt Bracken:

In response to recent articles in mainstream military journals discussing the use of the U.S. Army to quell insurrections on American soil, I offer an alternate vision of the future. Instead of a small town in the South as the flash point, picture instead a score of U.S. cities in the thrall of riots greater than those experienced in Los Angeles in 1965 (Watts), multiple cities in 1968 (MLK assassination), and Los Angeles again in 1992 (Rodney King). New Yorkers can imagine the 1977 blackout looting or the 1991 Crown Heights disturbance. In fact, the proximate spark of the next round of major riots in America could be any from a long list cribbed from our history.

We have seen them all before, and we shall see them all again as history rhymes along regardless of the century or the generation of humankind nominally in control of events. But the next time we are visited by widespread, large-scale urban riots, a dangerous new escalation may be triggered by a fresh vulnerability: It’s estimated that the average American home has less than two weeks of food on hand. In poor minority areas, it may be much less. What if a cascading economic crisis, even a temporary one, leads to millions of EBT (electronic benefit transfer) cards flashing nothing but ERROR? This could also be the result of deliberate sabotage by hackers, or other technical system failures. Alternatively, the government might pump endless digits into the cards in a hopeless attempt to outpace future hyperinflation. The government can order the supermarkets to honor the cards, and it can even set price controls, but history’s verdict is clear: If suppliers are paid only with worthless scrip or blinking digits, the food will stop.

But the actual numbers are several times what they were in 1965, and the population that is joining them, is not exactly riot averse.

LA isn’t going to become a riot free zone, it will be blowing off steam for generations to come.

I just got a .50 Beowulf upper for my AR-15 and cannot wait to take it out. Large bore would be a good deterent. Shoot a few and watch the other run in shear panic as they leave their friends half and half bodies lying on the ground.

"If I am in my car, sometimes a Jeep Cherokee, sometimes an old Camero, and I encounter a mob, can the mob prevent me from running them down?"

Theoretically speaking, a Camaro with stock height suspension wouldn't go very far over bodies in the mob. Camaros generally ride low. The wheels would soon be raised off of the ground and unable to get any traction. Then...well, you know.

Same for the Jeep Cherokee. It would do better than the Camaro but unable to get traction, after bodies were stuffed about four high or so under it.

But you might give that Cherokee a suspension lift job with over-sized tires and maybe a stroker job on the engine (for more low-end power)! Then, with over-sized off-road tires and sufficient revs in four, low (gear, assuming it's a four-wheel-drive), it could go over quite a pile of bodies!

Interesting physics problem, eh?

[More than a little silly irony and sardonic humor there.]

Apples and oranges. Decreasing percentage does not equate to leaving. The hispanic numbers have just gone up.

That is where the UN steps in. Blue helmets make good targets. But if this happens with Barry in Office I would not put it passed him to call his Comarades in the the Soviet Union to come help. Or even the Muslim Brotherhood.

“Sowell was fearful of a white backlash,”was he not?

Not at all.... He fears an eruption in the minority community.

It would take a considerable number of soldiers to control a large city like NY or LA.

Just takes a few that take out the electrical substations in the "hoods" to make living very uncomfortable. If wasn't for the Loose lips sink ships warning, I'd post it here.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I gave you some facts, and your off reading a crystal ball forseeing the future. My only point here is where the large black population was in southern central LA, has been substantially reduced and many left to the south and east.

It's no secret.

I looked at the .50 Beowulf, and it would certainly have its applications (besides murderous mobs, even). Have a look at the Stag 6.8 SPC II with 1:11 twist, if you haven’t done so already (especially terminal ballistics). [Ballistics nerd here. Not much danger of murderous mobs here, in the middle of frozen, high-altitude nowhere.]

Everybody is fleeing California according to Thomas Sowell, at least the best of the whites and blacks are fleeing, while the welfare types are better off where they are.

“”The latest published data from the 2010 census show how people are moving from place to place within the United States. In general, people are voting with their feet against places where the liberal, welfare-state policies favored by the intelligentsia are most deeply entrenched.

When you break it down by race and ethnicity, it is all too painfully clear what is happening. Both whites and blacks are leaving California, the poster state for the liberal, welfare-state and nanny-state philosophy.””

“”Although California has long been a prime destination of Asian immigrants and the homes of their descendants, the 2010 census shows a striking increase in the Asian-American population of Nevada, more so than any other state. Nevada is adjacent to California but has no income tax nor the hostile climate for business California maintains.

The movement of the black population – especially educated young blacks – is the most striking of all.””

It was Reginald Denny who was pulled out of his truck and severely beaten during the Rodney King riots.

I have no excuse for not knowing the right names, but that does not change the question.

I have a question. It's something I've wondered about people being pulled from their vehicles - especially Reginald Denny wasn't he in a Semi?)

If I am in my car, sometimes a Jeep Cherokee, sometimes an old Camero, and I encounter a mob, can the mob prevent me from running them down?

Seriously. What prevents the mob from getting creamed? My sense of human worth? It seems to me that Reginald Denny could have ran them down.

If it were my life, I'd absolutely run a mob over. Or can a mob be so huge, that even a car is useless?

Please read the thread. The Hispanic population increase in the So. CA/LA and South Central area specifically, is no secret. You could include TX, CO, AZ, Utah, OR, Georgia etc.

That being said, not all, but the big majority of those Hispanics are hard working people. I know quite a few BTW and I am intimately familiar with the So. CA region.

McGee BTT. Great essay, Matt. May it never become prophetic.

A couple of embellishments if you'll indulge me. For one thing, the first thing that breaks down in this scenario is emergency services. The mob sets a fire and somebody calls the fire department and here comes a big, red, loud, visible truck with easily-identified occupants in to fight the fire...and to get ruthlessly shot. Ambulance services? Forget it. And so the focus of the action turns to emergency rooms, quickly overwhelmed by the wounded of both sides and their friends, who will carry the fight to the sanctuary. I cite Beiruit, Iraq, and Guatemala as recent examples. The prepared neighborhood group had better include medical care because it's the only place that it may safely be provided.

Walled cities. This is, after all, the classic human response to predatory violence from outside. These will be neighborhoods with defensive perimeters, including bulldozed security zones that provide adequate fields of fire. See Israel and the PA for examples.

Logistics. Always this in warfare, and those enclaves who have provided for supply and storage will survive where those less prepared will not. This is true of water and food, but it is more immediately true in the realm of medication - see contemporary Greece for an example.

Social attrition. Small organizations - local gangs through neighborhood defense forces - who lose, will be wiped out. Those allying to a larger group will be protected so long as they are convenient and betrayed and shattered when that becomes more convenient still. People will be killed not for what they have done but for what they are, or worse, what they can be accused of symbolizing. See Bosnia/Herzegovina for an example, or, for that matter, all of human history.

Depressing list? You bet it is. This, however, is the breakdown of society from which the ones who pursue it imagine a stronger, newer, more just society emerging. The phoenix is, however, imaginary, while the ashes are real.

For his second book “Enemies Domestic”, Matt toured much of NM, especially land grant country.

I’m proud to say CougarGA7 and I provided a tiny bit of assistance in the “lay of the land”.

The sniper thing is worrisome as it was one of the worse horrors Selco talks about in his writings. There are any number of people who would take advantage of the chaos just for the thrill of the kill.

I think there's enough blacks in L.A. County to still riot.....

I'd guess the black exodus isn't quite as you've imagined.

That said...these "hard working" Hispanic's will riot with the best of them...............

And I totally disagree....blacks in L.A. will riot every chance they get.

Period.
