COSTA MESA [California] (CBSLA.com) — An investigation is underway Tuesday following multiple allegations that campaign paraphernalia has been tampered with in Costa Mesa.
Hundreds of banners and signs have been reported stolen and damaged over the past few weeks, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.
“The City and Police Department take allegations of theft seriously,” Police Chief Tom Gazsi said in a statement. “The Police Department is receiving information relative to these cases, investigating leads and proactively patrolling areas where incidents have been reported.”
Officials said there have been no eyewitnesses.

Obama signs or Romney signs?
Good question.
My guess is Romeny...otherwise the headline and lead would have been something like “Hate Crime Suspects Sought in Orange County”
You know it. I haven’t heard of one Obama sign being defaced or stolen but have heard tons of that happening to Romney signs
In Ventura County, Romney signs prevail.
I have not personally seen an Obama sign, including the neighbor at end of street with Obama signs in 2008.
This neighbor is suspect in dragging off about 4 lawn signs of ours back then - at 2am. Heard that sound of ‘sign metal’ as signs being dragged off the porch where they were kept every night.
Because the first 2 signs were stolen.
(Always regret not opening door, but thought I could catch a paint ball or something - - - then wondered what I’d do with the culprit upon knowing who it was). . .
Did call police, and they came - we all had a laugh or two - - -
Kind of did an ‘Oh yeah? Watch THIS’ - we got 15 signs and put them up every day, and took them in at night.
Had a home made sign that said ‘SMILE - You’re On Candid Camera!’
Kind of silly season, but the night of the elections we couldn’t believe Obumpo was winning.
Silly over - stupid ahead.
If I ever get a Romney sign (not available right now at the local GOP office), 190 pounds of German shepherd ensure no one touches the sign.

Even 2 weeks with a lawn sign can be useful.

When I eventually opened the door and walked out, I couldn’t believe how quick the thief was gone - hauling all those signs.
Even with help, which I don’t know (I heard no talking as I listened near the door).
Well, chrisinoc, we’ll all be tuned in to the first debate tonight.
Heard there’s a rumor Romney will touch his nose (the Pinocchio effect!) every time Obumpo tells a lie!
Actually, the left won’t get it, so better Romney just calls it plainly.
I hope we all get to hear the tyranical-sounding, unpresidential silver-tonged snake and his strident voice.
By Aug. 2009, I was in an uproar about BHO and his constant appearance - just about daily - on T.V. hollerin’ at me/us.
Wrote that in a letter to the editor of county newspaper, and they printed everything except where I said BHO sounded ‘like a dictator.’ They did print ‘unpresidential,’ tho.
