Wow.. it sure has a lot of uses and benefits. One point I would like to share.. just be careful using it as a hair conditioner. My daughters and I used it once as a deep conditioner. The only problem is it didn’t rinse out. You needed two extra shampoo routines to get it stripped. (just my experience) Perhaps we used too much?

Humans can survive on nothing but coconuts. It is an amazing ‘nut’? Anyway, you’ve got the coconut meat and a handy drink all in one container. I HIGHLY recommend buying Thai coconuts. They are DELICIOUS and addicting too. You go on YouTube to learn how to crack one open. You have to be careful but poking a hole in the right spot near the top will start a circular crack around the entire lid to pop off.

So where does one get 5 gallon cocoanut oil containers? That cocoanut oil enema intrigues me. AND it even cures genital warts. That’s a plus. A big plus.

We use a fair amount of coconutoil (makes the best popcorn), but I wouldn’t exactly call it “affordable”.

I have a Doctor friend who says exactly the opposite. C oil is fantastic and it’s Canola (Rapeseed) Corn, Palm, and Soybean oils that should be avoided.

Has anyone tried coconut oil as a BBQ degreaser? I’d really be interested to see if that works. I can’t get mine degreased.

Once you have made your popcorn with coconut oil, you will never go back to using anything else.

Your doctor is behind the times by a couple of decades.

Saturated fat used to be the bogie-man before they did the research and found that fat consumption (saturated, unsaturated, and anything in between) had zero effect upon cholesterol levels.

Modern heart attack prevention is all about cholesterol, cholesterol, cholesterol.

You may want to ask him why you should avoid saturated fat since it dosn’t contribute to high cholesterol levels?

When we lived in Hawaii, a girl showed us how to hold a coconut (with top facing you and 2 eyes on top) and tap it in 3 places on the sides with a smooth stone and the lid will lift right off.

My Dr is not anybody special, certainly correctable. She tells me to go with Canola, olive and avoid all tropical oils especially palm.

But I will ask her about coconut oil (unsaturated for sure)

She also told me that if anything I eat tastes good, I am to spit it out :)

It depends on the type of hair you have. I have thick, long, curly hair that drinks conditioner. I wash with shampoo every four days; the rest of the time I “co-wash” with a mixture of conditioner and coconut oil. I need the residue that’s left behind, and my hair looks better than ever.

Your doctor was talking about hydrogenated coconut oil; that’s the type we were always told to avoid. Pure organic virgin coconut oil is very healthy. It’s been shown to have antibiotic/antiviral/anti-inflammatory properties, and is fine for your heart.

Incidentally, I find it’s always cheaper at vitamin stores than health food places.

Same here. A Freeper sent me links to various articles on the benefits of coconut oil, which I printed out and showed to my cardiologist. He told me that the supposed benefits of coconut oil have yet to be proven. What studies have been done are flawed or suspicious since many of the studies were done by or on behalf of manufacturers, distributors and sellers of coconut oil.

The cardiologist did say that studies by reputable entities (Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins for example) are being done, but it may take some years to get results. In the meantime, he advised me to avoid all saturated fats, including coconut oil.
