I don't mean to pee on the parade of all the Mitt fans here. But did anybody else notice how Romney threw the Tea Party and conservatives in general under the bus tonight. He has disavowed every conservative position he has ever PRETENDED to take.
I am pissed.
Romney sounded great to me, I know what conservatism is, I wonder if many here do
If Obama is reelected by 2016 we will be so far over the fiscal cliff there will be no climbing back
Obama added planks favoring Gay Marriage and taxpayer funded abortion on demand up to birth to the 2012 Democrat Party platform.
By contrast the 2012 GOP platform is the most Conservative one in their history.
No matter how much you hate Romney, no one with a brain would refuse to see the stark difference between Romney and Obama on social issues.
With Romney Social Conservatives have a seat at the table, Obama will actively promote everything Soc Cons are against.
By 2016 everything Soc Cons claim to be so passionate about will be legislated. As Roe V Wade should of taught Soc Cons, once something is legislated it become almost impossible to undo.
Once 2016 rolls around the Judiciary will be so packed with Obamabots anything Soc Cons DID manage to legislate would simply be undone by Judicial Fiat.
If Obama is reelected there will be nothing left to win.
After another 4 year term of Obama the USA will be a European style 1 party state with a state directed media, that will allow just enough political window dressing from a “loyal opposition” to keep their peon classes passive
AND...it is up to those of us who profess conservative values to keep his feet to the fire. DC is a company town and will always do what the inhabitants think will benefit their reelection chances.

Look we knew he was a RINO. But the idea that Romney didn’t stake out any conservative positions in the debate is absurd: he invoked the 10th Amendment to drive a wedge of distinction between Romneycare and Obamacare (I hope when the two VP candidates debate Ryan will invoke the Latin church’s notion of subsidiarity to do the same), he pushed as supply-side approach to taxation and economic growth, implicitly rebuked Obama and the left’s notion that rights come from government not God, proposed shutting down government programs (on the criterion ‘Is this worth borrowing money from China to keep doing?’ which sounds pretty stringent to me) and merging others, he flogged Obama with the folly of industrial policy (that $90 billion = 2 million teachers and half the green energy companies when bankrupt remark will leave a mark).
If you’re upset about Romney’s invoking the need for regulation to keep markets functioning — he’s right, and I suggest you read Gov. Palin’s favorite Chicago School free market economist, Luigi Zingales to see why — and in the same point, Romney attacked the anti-market (albeit pro-business) notion of “too big to fail”. It also has the tactical advantage of denying Obama the ability to effectively false accusation that the GOP wants to restore the era of the robber barons (or any variations on that theme ‘dirty air, dirty water. . .’ etc.)

NO he didn’t. He said a LOT tonight that conservatives can be quite happy with:
1) He gave solid REASONS and clearly spoke out that he will repeal Obamacare
2) Opposes “TRICKLE DOWN GOVERNMENT”
3) Defended private sector, free enterprise, giving more power to the states, and declared Government’s jobs was to protect the Constitution and our rights.
4) His approach to balancing the budget - cut the spending, grow the economy. Spot on!
several other good points, but conservatives knew going in that Mitt’s a moderate. Well, he’s got some conservative positions, believes in America and our freedom, and he gave the marxist in the White House a good thrashing. You’d have to be a sourpuss to not like that.

Instead, it’s gone up by that amount. So it’s expensive. Expensive things hurt families. So that’s one reason I don’t want it.
Second reason, it cuts $716 billion from Medicare to pay for it. I want to put that money back in Medicare for our seniors.
Number three, it puts in place an unelected board that’s going to tell people, ultimately, what kind of treatments they can have. I don’t like that idea.
Fourth, there was a survey done of small businesses across the country. It said, what’s been the effect of “Obamacare” on your hiring plans? And three-quarters of them said, it makes us less likely to hire people. I just don’t know how the president could have come into office, facing 23 million people out of work, rising unemployment, an economic crisis at the — at the kitchen table and spent his energy and passion for two years fighting for “Obamacare” instead of fighting for jobs for the American people.
It has killed jobs. And the best course for health care is to do what we did in my state, craft a plan at the state level that fits the needs of the state. And then let’s focus on getting the costs down for people rather than raising it with the $2,500 additional premium.

Yes you do...
School choice is conservative.
Lowering tax rates and cutting exemptions, deductions and “credits” (unearned payouts) is conservative.
Not cutting the military is conservative.
Returning funding and power to the states is conservative.
There were a couple times, mainly related to him pledging to not cut spending, where he didn’t provide much of a contrast. But overall, I think he highlighted conservative differences with Obama.
I do wish he would have mentioned Obama’s forcing Catholic institutions to fund birth control in Obamacare. That’s a great specific of the government dictating health care decisions.

In the primary, you go hardcore right winger until you get the nomination. Then you shift to the center to try to be more of a centrist than your opponent.
They all do it.

Yes, exactly.
Part of this is who Mitt Romney really is, and part of it is the fact that he is appealling to moderates independents, but he came across strong, forceful, and made repeated statements that show clearly his right-ward view of free markets, letting people make their own decisions etc. Mitt Romney’s attacks on the ‘death panels’ was right out of Sarah Palin’s playbook, but Mitt was/is more precise, even wonky in how he does it, which is more effective and less ‘offensive’.

Absolutely. Even if Romney does everything he is supposed to do to fix the country, Republican voters must not be passive voters.
Every Republican politician should know their heads are on pikes, if they don’t do their jobs.
