Rush, Public Enemy among Rock Hall of Fame noms

Rush, Deep Purple, Public Enemy and N.W.A. are among the group of first-time nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
They join returnees Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Randy Newman, Donna Summer and Kraftwerk among the 15 artists vying for entry.
Even in the iPod age, the list of nominees up for induction in 2013 is as eclectic as they come. Nominees differ wildly in sound, origin and influence, ranging from the enduring prog rock of Canadian trio Rush and Procul Harum to German proto-electronica act Kraftwerk, the disco of Chic and Summer to the New Orleans funk of The Meters and the blues of Albert King and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
Motown also is represented by first-ballot entries The Mavelettes.
Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, acknowledged the extreme variety of this year's nominee class in a Thursday news release.

I am also one that never really took a liking to Rush, except Tom Saywer. I am more a Pink Floyd and Metallica guy.
Second look: Rush and Purple overshadowed those non-entities PE and NWA. Political and “gangsta” rap aroused such revulsion in me when I first heard it . . . and I confess it still does today, with the utter hatred, nihilism and racism in it; no redeeming qualities. Used to be a time when something as openly seditious as “By The Time I Get To Arizona” ever got recorded, the performer would end up in federal prison.

They’ve only remained relevant since they came out in the mid-70s, taking rock and prog rock in particular to new heights, as well as directly inspiring all of the members of Dream Theater, as well as Geddy Lee inspiring Steve Harris of Iron Maiden.
Hell ya, thats what I am saying. If anything they were inovative and even if you disagree they had some bad ass tunes. Especially for us Rowdy Teenagers at the time.
LOL. The headline for this post made me think that Rush Limbaugh was public enemy among the rock hall of famers. You fooled me.
I love Rush. But Kraftwerk? They had like two hit albums.
"Eclectic" being used in this context as a synonym for "NOT Rock and Roll."
Rush. yes, Deep Purple without a doubt, Heart, no (yes, it's Rock but there are a lot more deserving Bands not in there who should go first.) The rest of these nominees are not Rock, not Rock 'n Roll, and most have never even so much as covered a Rock and/or Roll tune.
Fail, HOF, as usual.

Their influence is still everywhere.
Rush didn’t have the same lineup as when they really got popular. Their first album was massive rock. I don’t think Neal Peart was on it.
“Working Man” is a great hard rock song.
Knowing next to nohing about rock and roll, I thought the same thing.

But still they’ve inducted “celebrated rockers” Madonna and Abba but somehow have overlooked Grand Funk, Ten Years After, and Deep Purple. That pretty much says it all.
Damn, how did I miss DP finally getting a nod? Wow.

I can’t stand Rush, but I think they deserve to get in, and soon.
