We are getting static for the second time today here in the Metro NYC area. 770 AM.
The first was for 10 plus minutes. This one has been for 8 so far.
What's going on ???
I have been noticing a lot of dead spots on ONLY the two talk radio stations in North Central Florida lately.
His wagon train is surrounded by angry Comanches.
Now it’s on. Now it’s off again. Static again.
Reported a couple of days ago the sun spots/atmospheric conditions would interfere with satellites, transmissions.
I listen on KOGO 600AM on the Internet.
I am in Santa Barbara, CA we are losing signals on the local station, so I switched to the internet, signal still going in and out.
COX cable said there are sun spots and will last another ten days or so.
Fortunately I have the podcast set up and each hour only takes about 10 seconds to down load, so will listen later without the blips.
Good to know, I thought it was just my car’s radio!
I use Internet streaming to WMAL or KNZZ. KFI 640 Khz (Los Angeles) get humming sound when Rush is on plus KFI news are too annoying they’re big fan of 0bama they don’t miss mention 0bama 0bama 0bama every hour and half the hour. :-(
Punishment for too many large sodas?
Second time today they pulled the plug on Rush !
Who is “they”? If you know then you make can find out the “why”....
Only on the two talk stations, mind you.
I don’t know the exact details, but I would guess that the major NYC stations are broadcast direct from antennas on top of the Empire State Building and elsewhere, whereas national talk radio may be broadcast from satellites.
And many of the major stations originate in New York studios, so they don’t have to be transmitted across the country—at least in NY.
I subscribe to Rush 24/7 so I don’t have to put up with that static, high school baseball or hockey games, etc.
So, the DemocRATS are ginning up sun spots to stop talk radio? So now the sun is against us...
I turned him off on my own today—His repetitious rants about things we already know have moved beyond tedious.
I’ve been noticing that the T.V. goes on the “fritz” (telephone cable), sometimes, when the talking head on FOX NEWS says something detrimental towards the President. Usually for just about 10 to 20 seconds. I figure it’s prolly somebody local, some engineer at the local station who’s in love with the President.
Anybody else getting the “fritz” on the Fox network?
The same thing happens here occasionally. Fox goes black for 10 or fifteen minutes but none of the other news channels do.
Obama using Project HAARP to jam the signal?
Reported a couple of days ago the sun spots/atmospheric conditions would interfere with satellites, transmissions.I read the same (posted here on FR, of course).
I wonder if these will effect cell phone networks.
I listen online to KTTH 770 but the feed has been iffy of late.
If I switch the online feed to WISN 1130, no problems plus I can hear Mark Belling afterwards.
COX cable said there are sun spots and will last another ten days or so.
Which is odd, since the Sun has had very low SUNSPOT activity lately, and the most recent CME is not due to hit Earth until October 8.
Our local station waits until Rush is about to say something crucial and breaks in with worthless traffic alerts that could wait for the regularly scheduled newscast.
It is so blatantly obvious sometimes I could scream.
You can get Rush on stations all over the country to stream. Keep looking.
Is your cable television signal fuzzy, internet reception spotty or cell phone service dropping in and out? Don’t blame your service provider over the next few days, blame the sun.
Expected solar flare activity now through next Thursday is expected to interrupt satellite signals to earth and cause signal interference.
Sun outages happen during the spring and fall when solar radiation interferes with satellite signals, said Matthew Templeton of the American Association of Variable Star Observers.
Most radio and television programs are transmitted via satellite to the local stations. At this time of the year, the sun will transit the satellite, which is to say, it the satellite is directly in front of the sun.
The noise from the sun overpowers the signal from the satellite for just a few minutes.
The time of the event depends on the orbital location of the satellite and the location of the receive antenna.
When they say, it is the sun's fault, it is, but not because of sun spots.

Medium wave AM stations, such as WABC, rely on ground wave, during the daytime and much prefer to have their towers in swampy areas to have a good solid ground.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AM_broadcasting
It is FM radio (in the Very High Frequency band), TV stations in VHF and UHF that are line of sight based, and need to have their antennas at height, for example, the line of site of a 1,000 foot tower is about 45 miles.
Maybe your beeber has been stuned?
It was weird to me as well, yet about five minutes ago all our local radio stations went off the air, just static.
I know little to nothing about astronomy/astrophysics, so will have to look to your expertise.
I don’t have to be looking. It’s all listed at el Rush bo web site.
I noticed that some time ago, almost everything after the first half hour is a rehash of the first half hour.
Swarm of black helicopters?
Perhaps this will help. You can have the same ‘expertise’ that I do. (My only real expertise is that I am good at knowing where to find information)

Chris Plante (WMAL AM/FM WASHDC) runs a little blurb with some guy telling him
“I will be glad when the Fairness Doctrine is signed and they throw you off the air”.
