A unique offer from a local jewelry store is getting a lot of attention.
D. Geller and Son is giving away a free gun to customers who buy a diamond.
Owner Mike Geller said he got the idea, after seeing a similar offer at a Missouri car dealership.
Gellers promotion offers a free hunting rifle, if you buy a diamond worth $2,499 or more.
Already, Geller says the offer is generating a lot of buzz.
Its unbelieveable! Theres websites that got a million hits about it, Geller said.
Its interesting. Its appealing to the men, I think said one Cobb County woman who didnt think it was a bad idea.
But another woman who worried about safety told Channel 2s Sophia Choi I think its stupid.
Geller said you dont just come in here, buy a diamond and grab a gun.
Instead, those who qualify will receive a voucher for Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna.
"That way you have to qualify, you have to follow all the rules and regulations in the state of Georgia to own a gun, Geller said.
Geller said the Missouri dealership that had a similar promotion ran out of cars and had to offer rain checks. Geller doubts hell run out of diamonds, but said he expects the promotion to bring in a lot of people.
A lot of our customers are hunters, and it just seemed like a great thing to do," added Geller.
The Bank of Boulder in the 80’s would give you a high dollar rifle for a CD.
Ford dealer in Houston TX used to have a commercial ~1980:
“Hey drivers it’s REDNECK day at Chick Smith Ford, buy a new truck and get a 30-30 rifle...”
It also occurs to me that it's a subtle way for a jewelry store to advertise that they have guns on the premises.
(wink wink, nudge nudge, Bob's your uncle and he doesn't like thieves.)
I miss the age of reason, buy a truck, get a gun.
When did it end? Was it poor old Jim Brady taking one to the brain and his sad excuse of a wife wheeling him around in public?
I don’t remember. It went on for some time and maybe even annually (just before deer season?). I moved away in 1982.
In Chicago, if you present a gun in a jewelry store, they give you whatever you want!
