well the title says it all!
Cat Scratch Fever- Evil Woman- Magic Carpet ride- Freebird- Cocain- Low Spark of High Heeled Boys- Walk this way- Tinme in a Bottle- on and on it goes- plenty of cool Dylan songs, Credence, Blind ?Owl, many many great songs- period!
Led Zep: “How Many More Times”.
Lot of good choices. I Didn’t agree with the order in many cases. For example, as far as I’m concerned, Smoke on the Water is #1.
It’s incomplete, Judas Priest, You Got Another Thing Comin’.
Lousy picks. The Doobie Brothers “Listen to the Music” is missing, beaten to death by some heavy, heavy acid rock - - where’s In-A=Gadda-DA-Vida?
Whoever compiled this list was hitting the meth big time.
I agree. There are so many I cannot list them all. This is subjective, an exercise in futility.
Not to mention KISS. Detroit Rock City. I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night, Dr. Love, etc. I heard they’re about to come out with a 40th anniversary CD.
NO, No, no!
Led Zep the beginning of “The Ocean” if you wanna pick them.
Beginning of The Stones “Can’t You Here Me Taking” best riff EVER!
Any Rory Gallagher in there?
Smoke on the water with a twist
From the Made in Japan Album
Deep Purple Live “Lazy”
This is awesome
AC/DC should not be in the same video with Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix!
But thanks for posting - that was fun.
You know, I thought this said top 30 best damn rock cliffs ever and was looking for pics...
okay. My fav is Led Zep “Since I’ve been lovin’ you”...
Nothing is better for me, that I can think of right now...
Agree, some deserve to be there most do not. You gotta be kidding, NO BOSTON, NO EAGLES, NO JOURNEY, and the list goes on. Motorhead??? Who gives a flyin f about motorhead. Eighty percent of the people have never heard of them. Besides, their music stinks. They put up a tough guy persona but those scrawny crack heads would get their asses kicked by the grade schooler. They’re a bunch of no talent posers. And the list STINKS, period.
Back In Black/Highway To Hell is definitely up there.
I only agreed with half of them.
Those were the iconics like the Stones, Hendrix, Deep Purple, Clapton, etc.
[and why have the crappy RUN/DMC “edit” of “Walk This Way”?!? Bleah!]
I would’ve been mightily pissed if GNR’s Sweet Child O’ Mine hadn’t been on there.
However, where’s “School’s Out”, Billion Dollar Babies, BOC’s DFTR, L.A. Woman, White Wedding, Radar Love, Bat Out Of Hell, Aqualung, Locomotive Breath, Crazy Train, Mother and a hundred other “I can name that tune in 3 notes” stuff?
No Frigid Pink’s “House Of The Rising Sun”, even, FFS?
I should stay off these threads.
God of Thunder.
Sorry if the link doesn't work. It's my first attempt.
Love your additions, especially Tull.
Then there is:
Ram Jam “Black Betty”
ZZ Top “La Grange”
The undiscerning fool, who chose what he considers “riffs”,likes them loud, stupid, and containing as few notes as possible. Do go to Youtube and press the thumbs down botton. Umbarassing!
Good to Great and notable but the hook is too simple/slow to be the "Best".
I would have put “Free Ride” in there too, maybe even number 1.
Oh, hell yeah.
You’d love my iPod playlists.
You got it! That tune is the riff from beginning to end!
Sometimes simple is good.
However I would rather experience more depth:
Ian Anderson with the London Symphony “Locomotive Breath”
We are all biased towards are favorite kick ass riffs.
Aerosmith has a few more Joe Perry kickass classics.
How about Kansas, Rob ?
Blue Oyster Cult
Stevie Ray Vaughn
just to name a few...
Thought I was the only person left that believed that was the best version.
The heavily clipped/distorted amp on the guitar was awesome and ahead of its' time.
Though one of the greatest Stones songs ever the Intro is too slow and needs the vocals and drums to form the rhythm. Not what what I consider a guitar riff. Back up singer Merry Clayton made that song great.
BIB is a good album but much as I like Brian, [more so when he sang for Geordie] he’s no Bon Scott.
Joe Walsh - Rocky Mountain High
George Thorogood - BAD to THE BONE
Ted Nugent - Hey Baby
Loggins and Messina - Angry Eyes
Allman Brothers - Whipping Post
CSNY - Southern Cross
Van Halen - Beautiful Girl
Santana - Black Magic Woman
Jeff Beck (Rod Stewart)- Ain't Superstitious
Doobies - Listen to the Music
Stones - Honkey Tonk Women
Aerosmith - Train Kept a rollin'
Cream - Crossroads
Zeppelin - Whola Lotta Love
Stones - Can't ya hear me knockin'
Tower of Power - Knock your self out
Tower of Power Don't change Horses
AC/DC - Back in Black
Ted Nugent - Stranglehold
Christopher Cross - Ride like the Wind
Elton John - Love Lies Bleeding in my hand
David Bowie - FAME
Doctor John - Must of been the Wrong Place
Lee Michaels - Do you know what I mean
Boz Scaggss - Loan me a Dime
Lou Reed - Walk on the Wild Side
REO Speedwagon - Roll with the Changes
Robin Trower - Too Rollin' Stoned
Spirit - I've got a line on you
T. Rex - Bang a Gong
Warren Zevon - Werewolves of London
I bet the fool hasn’t even heard of this band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s70y40ba7k8
I agree, but it wouldn’t make for a short top 30.
FP’s version is The One to which all others must be compared.
My second favorite version features, of all people, Brian Johnson, currently of AC/DC fame.
If the singer doesn’t sound like they’ve *lived it*, I don’t wanna hear them.
[The Animals/Eric Burdon looked like they were sleep walking through the song]
Not the Keith Richards of old. Can you tell the difference?
I'm going back to listen to
It's Can't You Hear Me Knocking" but I agree. The beginning is great, but... the ride (about 2 minutes in but lasts for the rest of the song) is the absolute best break ever recorded. Congas, sax, Keith's lead, and don't forget Charlie. Most of the riffs on the video were just warmed over, derivative and generic metal riffs. Yawn.
Yeah, but when it gets going....;D
Then there’s Paint It Black.
May I add: Spirit/I’ve Got a Line On You
Weasels ripped that list.
An alternate version from one of my favorite bands, TSOM
Great riff !!!
Can’t You Hear Me Knocking
You want depth in rock?
Trower and T.Rex.
We should vote down the list compiler with extreme prejudice.
