This one was missed.
Then there is always this classic:
The Breeders “Cannonball”
Honestly I like Brian better. RIP Bon.
“It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll).” was his best.
Bam a lam.
So was this.
Now *that’s* a heavy riff.
Scratch last- here’e the live version.
“That’ll be the day” - Buddy Holly / “Sweet Home Alabama” - Lynyrd Skynyrd / “Secret Agent Man” - Johnny Rivers... “Memphis” - Johnny Rivers...
Sammy Hagar - I Can’t Drive 55
AC/DC - Shot down in Flames
Blackfoot - Train, Train
Blackfoot - Highway Sound
Mainstream as always sucks! Doesn’t it?
OMG did I just misquote the title of my favorite riff?
Shame on me. Good catch.
I grew up with Bon fronting.
[I’m kinda loyal like a dog]
Bon was so effortlessly sinister....Brian often tries too hard, IMO.
But I do love the guy.
He’s a real character.
I would never put the Rolling Stones in the mix, but the other night on VH1 they played “Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones”.
This was the Mick Taylor era, Mick had glitter on, Keith was missing a tooth, but Taylor really knocked it out.
Here is a taste of it.
It happens. It’s late.
Among so many others. Joe’s Garage. Hot Rats. Peaches en Regalia. Cheepnis. entire album of Just another Band From LA....
Left Turn On A Redlight
The Cheech and Chong is so cool !!1
I’m planning on using Ram jam as the intro to my radio show, when I get around to it.
That’s two guitars so I’m not sure it counts as a riff.
Definitely on my iPod.
I like *some* male grunge [Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, some Nirvana] but girl grunge doesn’t really do it for me.
And there was no NIN.
[Head Like A Hole]
It’s a weird ‘riff’ but a riff, nonetheless.
This is just one:
one bourbon one scotch one beer
Saw him with John Lee Hooker under a tent on the mall in DC on the 4th of July.
Alot of folks here hate the guy... but he can play geetar!!
We are agreed.
We hate this list.
Yup, hanging head down in shame, was listening to it earlier.
Now listening to 867 5309 :^)
I’m with you on that.
If you like NIN and Rezor, you should know Adrian Belew ?
Dude, were you sent here to make me re-live my past?
I thought I shook everyone loose..
Have you seen the movie “Blow”? It’s the intro. Good movie too if you can get past all the sadness.
Second half of CYHMK is another song all unto itself. Bobby Keys made it so.
People jump about a foot when my iPhone rings.
I have “School’s Out” as the ringtone.
And I don’t mean a ‘ringtone’ or midi...it’s a ripped and converted CD MP3...the whole actual song...full blast.
I never miss a call.
That’s okay..they’ve played at like every big biker bash I’ve ever been to...LOL
[and boy, if you’re riding a Harley down a dark, deserted back road when that comes on, it just about breaks your heart]
I'm in no position to argue.
George 3 Song Wonder is fun, rich from his great lyrics and ax playing, is a treasure.
King Crimson Adrian?
You’re right about Bobby Keys. It’s like another song pushed aside the start, and it is so good you really don’t mind.
And yeah, I’ve seen the movie. Penelope Cruz can always help me past the sadness.
If you have time you need to check out the new/old King Crimson.
Adrian Belew, Robert Fripp, Tony Levin, and Bill Bruford.
Layers of complexity
Nothing like ever or ever since.
I don’t think so.
Ever since I can remember, my life’s had a “sound track”.
Every song has a person, place or thing attached to it.
Some happy, some sad.
You could say I’m nostalgic but I prefer to think I’m “Living In The Past”.
/shameless Tull plug
born in the sun-kissed flame.
Who was it lit your candle -—
branded you with your name?
I see you walking by my window
in your Kensington haze.
Salamander, burn for me
and I’ll burn for you.
[so..am I now too old to rock and roll and too young to die?]
No Frigid Pinks House Of The Rising Sun, ]]
Wow- never heard that version- very nice- Just heard the ‘white buffalo’ version too- not too bad- but prefer frijid version more
[[Billion Dollar Babies]]
Can’t beat Cooper- Love his Black Limousine Song too- Kinda sounds like Stray cats song lol-
Great list- you’re my time frame;
“Red” is one of the best riffs ever.
Reminded me of Iggy POP
Emerson, Lake and Palmer - In the Beginning
Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart
Yours is No Disgrace - Yes
Still love this classic, though
Which reminds me, NO PROCUL HARUM??
No Moody Blues??
That does it.
I’m plugging my iPod into the stereo beside the couch.
I need my “good stuff” fix.
Yeah, you got sad shoes
Yeah, you got nasty boobs
Yall got cocaine eyes
Yeah, you got sleepy eyes
LOL that’s how I told my cousin it went when she wanted to buy me a CD Christmas present. God Bless her she asked her mother and figured it out. They were kinda hippies back then...
It’s a put on !!
Like an Eminence Front
You like Tom Waites?
Check out Alice’s homage to him
Friggin’ song always cracks me up.
And of my [obscure] but most beloved Alice tunes
do you know Anne Lenox’s version of
“Whiter shade of pale” ?
I LOVE Iggy.
I named my first snake Iggy Python...LOL
[you really need to rent the movie “SUCK”]
In the Court of the Crimson King...No Procol harem....Jeff Beck?!
Yeah, well, me, too. But I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.
And I only know three chords! EARACHE MY EYE!! Man does this bring back memories.
