VANITY - Anyone Remember Michael Patrick McManus?

I was doing some web surfing on the Stolen Valor Act and was looking at articles about him when I ran across the link to the above obituary. I think this is him.

Everything the description fits him perfectly (e.g., lived in Houston; studied Tibetan Buddhism; his "cherished friend" Alvin Chan) and the photo pretty much looks like him (minus the glasses, soul patch and goatee, of course).

Does anyone know whether or not he really is dead? I couldn't find anything else on the web except this obituary. If he really has died, you would think that all the Stolen Valor websites would have mentioned it.

Is he the man who wrote the funny articles for either Field and Stream or Outdoor life?

Dawgreg,

He was an imposter pretending to be a highly decorated Brigadier General in the Army when in reality he only served 3 years and was only a Private who was discharged "Under Honorable Conditions" (which is NOT the same as an Honorable Discharge).

He was arrested in Houston in February 2010 for violation of the Stolen Valor Act after appearing in the above uniform at the Houston Mayor's inauguration party in December 2009. Story and video here:

Man arrested, accused of stolen valor

Houston is where the individual named in the obituary had died.

According to the article below he had a "domestic partner" by the name of Alvin Chan, whose name was mentioned in the obituary:

More Imposter Mcmanus updates; Affidavit filed in Federal Court

In the above photo he is shown with Steven Segal, and Mcmanus is dressed in Buddhist robes. The obituary mentioned that the family requested donations to some retreat center in California that focused on Tibetan Buddhism.

You can do a search and find information on the man but this is where I found most of mine:

Michael Patrick McManus Chan, aka General Ballduster McSoulpatch

As a matter of fact, I posted this same question at that website this past July (last post, #122), as well as on another website but have yet to get any response. I figured I'd post it here as well just in case in FReepers might know whether or not this is the same man.

Personally I believe it is, but just curious why no Stolen Valor websites have posted the news.

"Probably died from aids or something."

Considering he was a homosexual, it wouldn't surprise me.

Oh, I know exactly who he is and what he and others have done - I'm just trying to confirm whether or not he is man mentioned in the obituary.

I have visited and posted this question on the website you mentioned (see my post to Dawgreg, #8 above).

That same question came up on thisainthell. I believe they answered it in the affirmative.
