LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An undercover Los Angeles police officer was shot in the leg early Thursday morning in the Westlake District, officials said.

The shooting occurred around 3 a.m. at 4th street and Virgil Avenue, just west of downtown Los Angeles, police said.

Officials say three officers in a van were conducting surveillance for an undercover narcotics sting when they were fired upon by two suspects in a tan SUV.

“The round struck the vehicle and struck one of our police officers in the leg,” Lt. John Radke said.

He was treated by paramedics on the scene for non-life threatening injuries and released.

The suspects, two male Hispanics, fled the scene following the shooting and are outstanding.

An investigation is underway.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects. Anyone with information should call the Los Angeles Police Department.

The ‘perps’ must not have been willing to give the ‘undercovers’ their vig.

I'm not sure how their performance would be considered outstanding.

Different rules for the police than for everyone else.

I would have corrected the line as follows: "The suspects, two male Hispanics, fled the scene following the shooting and both really suck."

I think it should read formerly undercover. They released the time and location, his cover is done.

I take that back. They were all in the van. I thought one was outside of the van for narcotics purchase.

LOL Possibly, but I can't help thinking that there have probably been a great many performances in that category in LA in the last year.
