Posted on 10/11/2012 8:48:42 AM PDT by bigbob
The Huffington Post, ever eager to curry favor with anti-American pundits and racists posing as free-thinkers, has published a screed by Marc Lamont Hill, who is a black professor at Georgetown University, titled The 15 Most Overrated White People. Keep in mind that this is a man who not only praised convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu Jamal, but published Jamals writings, and also was accused of supporting Fidel Castro and Khalid Muhammed.
So who are some of the people on Hills list?
Christopher Columbus, described as an immoral treasure hunter and a vicious conquistador.
Elvis Presley: a cheap facsimile of Little Richard. Spoken like a true racist.
Ronald Reagan: largely responsible for shutting down mental hospitals, bloating the military, shrinking benefits for the needy, sparking mass incarceration, and declaring ketchup a vegetable for our children's school lunches. Also closing down the Soviet Union and rescuing the American economy, you moron.
There are others on the list who deserve it (Bill Clinton and Justin Bieber come to mind), but this column is just one more instance of a black racist venting his fury on the people who have largely civilized the modern world. Are there whites who are overrated? Sure. But if Hill really wanted to be truthful, he could have added one to the list: Barack Obamas mother.

Hill leverages his racism for money with Bill O'Reilly who I'm sure keeps him around as a source of controversy and thus revenue. He couches his core racism under a veneer of academia and a slimy personality, but this article shows just how hateful and clueless he really is.
But I guess this means it's OK to put out a list of "The Most Over-Rated Black People", and I know exactly who would be at the top of that list. And he'd have lots of company.
Anyone else notice that the subtle dehumanization of whites in this society is becoming a little less subtle each year?
I actually agree with this one, but not for the reasons given. It is more that he was a petty tyrant when given a chance to govern his own Carribean nation, and had to be removed by his peers. Basically, dude sucked.
I don't know about Little Richard, but there is no question Elvis ripped off black artists but passed himself off as an original.
Why does BOR keep having “Doctor” Hill on as a guest (His PHd is in African Studies”)? He’s a typical leftist clown.
Elvis sold ONE BILLION records. Not bad for a cheap imitation of Little Richard.
In contrast, Lamont Hill could not fill 20 seats in any lecture hall.
I nominate Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton as well. (They oughta make #2 and #3.)
And Led Zeppelin ripped off blues artists...but who is remembered more? Howling Wolf, Willie Dixon or the mighty Zep? Yeah, Page, Plant and crew, because they took elements of blues songs and made it something unique and reinvented. Which is exactly what Elvis did...he interpreted the material and made it better than the original.
William Shakespeare is overrated but rappers are even rated? Rappers are the worst disembowlers of the English language ever.
Hill passes off Kyd, Middleton and Webster as superior to Shakespeare. LOL There’s not a single example cited from these shock-meisters that would justify such an assertion. Also who was writing better female roles than Shakespeare before the Restoration?
The translations of his diaries are on the internet or you can order them from amazon.
As you describe him is just not true.
He was combining the R&B of the time with Country and Western influences in a way that others were not doing.
My favorite example of Led Zeppelin improving on a blues classic:
But at least Zeppelin didn’t try to pass this of as “original” material the way Elvis did with “Hounddog”.
We all know there are bad white people as well as bad people of all shapes, sizes, and colors. The point of this article is how “Doctor Hill” who purports to be above this sort of thing as a big academic thought leader, blah blah, is just another angry black racist.
This was my Reaction to Hill's stupid Article:
Elvis Presley: The Man was a literally King and had more class than many of his peers and successors.
For Insulting Elvis Presley Mr. Marc Lamont Hill Please Go stand at the Intersection next to Graceland.
Ronald Reagan: The Man who did what your side said could not be done; Beat the Soviets.
For Insulting President Reagen Mr. Hill, go lock yourself in a cage with Rabid Actor-Monkies.
Justin Bieber: Not One of my Favorites, but I know he isn't trying to out do "R&B"
Donald Trump: Whatever Trumps Failings, I am sure he has helped more people than you ever will Mr. Hill. Please go jump off the Trump Tower.
Prince Harry: Despite his poor judgement from time to time, his comment to his duties is unquestioned. Which I am sure that is something you know very little about Mr. Hill, Please go fly RAF Copters in Afghanistan in Prince Harry's Place, we need him more than you.
Tim Tebow: One of the best of this current crop of NFL stars. You could use a lesson in Humility Mr. Hill, so please show us how to Blitz please.
President Ubama's Economic Team: A Bunch of Putzes like you Mr. Hill.
William Shakespeare: Than man who made the English Language what is today. Please equal that achievement Mr. Hill.
Babe Ruth: A Person who was the best at what he did and made no apologizes for it. Mr. Hill, please bat-a-thousand (without steroid use)
Duchess Kate Middleton: A Glamorous, yet humble Princess who has brought so much class to the House of Windsor that 45 years from now people will still be talking about it. You are not fit to shine the Duchess' SHOES Mr. Hill.
Joel Osteen: What you said about Joel Osteen Mr. Hill, all applies directly to you.
The Whole NHL (except Wayne Simmonds): Please continue to spit on a whole sport and their fans Mr Hill, I am sure the Hockey Players are most impressed once they glue a Puck to your face.
Bill Clinton: You are correct Mr. Hill, for all the wrong reasons. Tell me are better off under Slick Willy and Barak Ubama than you were during say President Eisenhower?
Eminem: Slim Shady, doing what black rappers have aspired too and failed since 1997.
Bill Walton: Mr. Hill you weary me. Sufficed to Say Bill Walton deserves his spot in the Hall Fame, something of which you will never be apart of.
Sarah Palin: A Leader of the Conservative Moment and one of the Greatest Threats to Comrade Ubama's plans.
Finally for insulting Sarah Palin Mr. Hill, please either go take a long walk off a short bridge into a Polar Bear pen or GTFO OF MY COUNTRY YOU USELESS PUTZ!
I'm much more familiar with Howlin' Wolf and Willie Dixon.
The author of this list is a clown of the first water, but there is no need to tear down MCs when giving Shakespeare his well-deserved due.
Re: Ronald Reagan: largely responsible for shutting down mental hospitals,
So that’s where all those democrat voters came from. (/sarc)
Mark is nothing more than an ignorant racist. He does nothing but keep others wallowing in their ignorance.
I think you just might be in the minority on that one.
This is just bad taste masquerading as discernment.
In terms of female roles, Shakespeare is the finest of the Elizabethan/Jacobean era and this in particular is an area where he clearly bests Marlowe.
My list of the 15 most overrated white people, which I have posted on earlier threads. I made a couple of changes, replacing Robert F. Kennedy with Margaret Mead and Elizabeth Taylor with Rachel Carson.
John F. Kennedy
John Maynard Keynes
Franklin D. Roosevelt
Albert Gore, Jr.
Ernesto “Che” Guevara
Edward R. Murrow
than = to. I’m autocorrecting myself out of fluency in my native tongue.
Another case was “What Lester brung, Stan Getz”, where black jazz musicians complain about Getz learning and profiting from Lester Young’s tenor style.
I’m not making it, but a better argument is that Little Richard was an underrated black person.
Personally, I think Jerry Lee Lewis is the Man.
Columbus isn’t great for being a governor. Nor was he the first to realize the world is a sphere. He wasn’t even the first European to discover the American continents. He is great because he had the determination convice someone to finance him, and the courage to persevere when his crew wanted to turn back. What he did was to permanently and massively change the world. What he did after that is irrelevant.
Shakespeare’s feel for human nature was truly outstanding. No over-rated there.
I still wouldn’t invite him to dinner.
Hannity has been having him on lately as well.
There is indeed question. In fact you’re very mistaken.
Elvis was humble, especially by superstar standards. He didn’t go around boasting he was a genius or the voice of a generation like others have done since. He was always quick to give credit to his many influences. These influences included country music artists, white gospel singers, and black gospel singers. Elvis grew up around all of this. How could he not be influenced by it all? It’s not like he was a studio creation where he and his handlers decided to take X from one genre, Y from another. If Elvis ripped off black artists, then he also ripped off country and gospel artists.
He took it all in and it formed his style. And his style - the blend and fusion of country, gospel, rockabilly, r & b, etc - , put forth by one of the all time great voices, was unique and original.
One could criticize Elvis for allowing himself to get songwriting credit on some of those early songs that he actually didn’t deserve at all. That would be fair. But that was a business decision made by Colonel Tom Parker, and Elvis was always weak when it came to business decisions or standing up to Parker.
“Anyone else notice that the subtle dehumanization of whites in this society is becoming a little less subtle each year?”
In fact, they talk about us like the “other.” It makes me feel so insignificant.
Big Mama Thornton’s song was a big hit on the R&B charts before Elvis; I am sure there was no confusion over who did the original there.
Elvis did employ a good stable of songwriters like Mac Davis, Ronnie Milsap, and Leiber and Stoller.
But I loved that Zeppelin song; good stuff. Going to the theater on Oct 17 to see the iMax version of the 02 reunion show, Celebration Day.
No room for the Great Clinton, either one?
I’d turn off a Clinton faster than I would Bob Dylan or John Lennon.
Maybe I should just focus on overrated politicians. Most “entertainers” are overrated and probably deserve their own list. Lady Gaga, Madonna....
Led Zeppelin's version of "When the Levee Breaks" is certainly different from the original. However, it fails to capture the pathos of the original, which was likely inspired by catastrophic floods of 1927 and 1929 in the lower Mississippi Valley.
The original version is unavailable on Youtube, but I found it on a Chinese site.
When the Levee Breaks--Memphis Minnie & Kansas City Bob, 1929
Indeed, the Clintons, Moochelle, Colin Powell, John Murtha and Chris Dodd are among those who deserve consideration.
“Ernesto Che Guevara”
Oh, yeah. I get it. A white-hispanic like Zimmerman? :-)
Although Willie Mae Thornton had the original version of "Hound Dog," as far as I now, Freddy Bell & the Bell Boys was the first act to perform the arrangement which Elvis Presley used. I like their version better than his.
Hound Dog--Freddy Bell & the Bell Boys (1955)
“Che” Guevara was a native Argentine of Spanish and Irish descent. He probably had no Indian ancestry.
“Indeed, the Clintons, Moochelle, Colin Powell, John Murtha and Chris Dodd are among those who deserve consideration.”
Yeah, maybe remove race from the criteria and go for a Top 20 or 25 overrated politicians list.
I don’t need their approbation, I just think about all the other examples in history when one segment of a society is spoken of as though they are somehow less valuable. It never ends well.
He’s a PHD and can barely speak properly...sad...just another gimme degree because of what he is rather than what he earned
a mediocre IQ, it’s so painfully obvious
exactly....the Delta bluesmen along with two other roots....religious and Appalachin-Country with a hair of up and comer Jazz pretty much formed Rock and Roll and later Rock...
I love the old bluesmen...most came from my homestate...I have educated myself on them for 35 years now....but there is a reason the big Rock bands went so much further
not because they were white..was Hendrix white?
it was talent and to some degree at least compared to the 1920s guys...electric guitars
it’s like saying Mozart ripped off the Keep harp player from the 1400s
Strongly, strongly disagree. Elvis was an original, in that there had never been anyone like him before. He was influenced by blues, gospel and country music, and all three strands met in him and formed something new. It is ridiculous to compare him to Little Richard, hello, a pianist - whom he looked and sounded nothing like. And LR never sang ballads, which Elvis did beautifully.
Yes, but Led Zepplin did not remotely improve upon Dixon or Burnett. Simply made a watered down version that was palatable to mindless white teenaged boys.
Some of what Hill wrote may not have been seriously intended. He's done Red Eye on Fox News (as a token leftist to be sure), and some of what he's doing here is intentionally clownish. C'mon, is this really to be taken seriously?
Billy's hulking presence in the Western literary imagination has led to the marginalization of other incredible writers of his era, such as Kyd, Middleton and Webster, whose work merits equal if not greater attention. Also, as a result of his deification, we ignore the fact that many aspects of Shakespeare's work -- such as the writing in Hamlet or the generally narrow range of female roles in his plays -- just aren't that awesome.
It's a joke at Shakespeare worship to be sure. Also a jab at the people who always put the Shakespeares of the world down. Or is there really no irony there?
I don't get your source's reference to Obama's mother, though. We here are probably among the few people in the world who ascribe any importance at all to her. Very few other people "rate" her one way or the other.
