What do you all think about the Umberti recreation of the Schofield .45? For whatever reason, I love this gun, probably from watching too many westerns.
This is not particularly a self-defense gun, although I suppose the .45LC would not be pleasant to be shot with.
I just think it's cool and want to hang it in a holster in my cabin the the moutains to counter-act the crap my wife is hanging up, and occassionaly go cowboy shoot with it.
Well, it is a beautiful pistol. Someone once called it the “Rollex of Old West pistols.” And it works for self defense, just fine...
I have a Uberti 1847 Walker Colt that I built “from the white”. Uberti makes some of the best kits out there and now I’m seeing completed firearms, like the Cattleman, showing up in stores. Never fired the Schofield, though.
Well, I guess this Uberti would be like the Fauxlex of the Old West Pistols.
But cool. Something about the “break” style is just awesome.
Price is not unreasonable, either.
you should note that there’s a huge difference in the .45 schofield and a .45 colt.
the .45 colt is a little bit more potent that an .44 mag (in a ruger, freedom arms or thompson) whereas the .45 schofield is about the equivalant to a .45 acp. it’s potentially a very good self defense calibre.
I’ve got plenty of utility guns, from .380 tos to a .308 to a .300 Weatheryby.
I just want a cool cowboy gun.
It’s what Wyatt actually used at the OK Corral,,i think in a 7”. Fine gun, if you cannot fight your way out of any social problem you encounter with it. Your scary life is the problem, not your weapon.
It can be converted to use moon-clips in 45ACP. That would be fine for self defense with an even faster reloading capability. http://gunblast.com/TK-Schofield.htm
This is actually a .45 long colt. Where does that fit in?

I believe that it would use .45 Scholfield rounds that are a bit shorter than .45 Colt so obtaining ammo might be a problem. I see them at Cowboy Action shoots once in a while. Even if it would chamber .45 Colt I would not reccomend more than light cowboy loads.
Go for it. .45LC kicks about the same as a .44 Special.

i’ve converted all my saa revolvers to bird’s head. much more comfortable.
You can load .45 Colt heavier in a strong revolver but factory loads are made to be safe in older guns.
Actually, I suspect the Uberti is probably making a even better gun than Smith and Wesson did - better metal, fires 45LC, instead of just 45 Schofield, etc.
And it isn’t cheap, even from Uberti. When I was in SASS, I wanted one, but couldn’t afford it. Settled on Ruger Vaquero Bisleys.
S&W tried making some new Schofields, but they cost over a thousand dollars.
I have one in 45 Colt but is 7”. Damn fine gun.
Reminds me of the “Scofield Kid” in The Unforgiven, the best western ever.
I have a couple of Ubrtis, a 1873 rifle in .45 Colt and an 1875 Remington “Outlaw” also in .45 LC. Fine guns. Buy it you won’t be sorry.
