Romney Outspending Obama On TV In Swing States
Dick Morris ^ | 10/11/2012 | Dick Morris

This week, thanks to a big increase in its television spending, Mitt Romney has turned the tables on the president and now is spending more on television advertising in the swing states.

Buoyed by a 64% increase in his television spending (vs. only 2% for Obama) Romney is spending $22.4 million on ads in Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Colorado, Iowa and Nevada compared to $17.5 million for President Obama. In the previous week — and for several weeks before that — Obama had a spending edge. In the week of October 1st, Obama outspent Romney by $17.2 to $14.8 million.

This emerging gap in ad spending may account, in part, for the widening lead Romney is posting with each passing day in most polling.

In Florida, for example, Romney is outspending Obama by $1.2 million this week while Obama spent $650,000 more last week.

The following chart compares the advertising spending on television for the week of October 8th compared with the spending for the week of October 1st. The figures include all spending by and on behalf of the candidate, whether from his own campaign committee, the national party, or an outside PAC or independent expenditure:

Florida:

Romney – $6,530,661 ($3,504,993 previous)

Obama – $5,323,353 ($4,147,140 previous)

Ohio:

Romney – $4,381,999 ($4,403,999 previous)

Obama – $3,861,100 ($4,286,664 previous)

Virginia:

Romney – $5,093,574 ($3,937,296 previous)

Obama – $4,377,565 ($4,599,713 previous)

Colorado:

Romney – $2,387,209 ($979,094 previous)

Obama – $1,628,946 ($1,710,591 previous)

Iowa:

Romney – $2,513,668 ($1,248,731 previous)

Obama – $1,429,518 ($1,544,132 previous)

Nevada:

Romney – $1,464,319 ($709,931 previous)

Obama – $853,024 ($897,540 previous)

Obama just opened a storefront campaign office in a heavily blue-collar Democrat neighborhood near here.

I am certain this area has voted not less then 79% Democrat since the Depression. Yet they are spending time and money there.

They are very worried about their base.

In which state is "here"?

I haven’t seen any Romney commercials here in a Deep Red Southern State. On the other hand, I’ve seen several Obama commercials on the networks and ESPN. I’m hoping that’s because Romney has this State completely sewn up and he’s bombarding swing and barely-blue States.

It is obvious that Team Romney thinks they can take Iowa.

Romney kept his powder dry. Now I’m seeing the “this ad approved by”, so it seems like he’s starting to turn on his own money around here (IA). Hitting the final stretch.

I agree with that notion. What we are seeing is much more than a Romney bounce from the first debate. The Romney strategy of holding back the $$ until October is starting to pay dividends.

Romney is showing that he was smart to wait till most voters start paying attention.

In one of the beg for money e-mails from the campaign, it was implied that they were still opening more offices.

These offices are their ‘ground game’, where they get people registered. Its their only hope...and kind of expensive.

I am thinking Romney might start actually campaigning in California.
Our local paper reported yesterday that last month obama was leading by 25 points, yesterday by only 9 points.
That is a huge swing in just a month.
(Do not know if they took this poll before or after last weeks debate. I have noticed lots of Romney/Ryan signs in our community now.)

“They are very worried about their base.”

I’d say so. I haven’t seen any Romney ads here in NY but I’ve seen constant daily Obama ads.

Can you imagine how vindictive Obama will be when he loses. The time between November 6th and January 20th will be one of the most dangerous times in this country. There is no telling what Ø will try to push through out of spite. The last acts of a desperate despot. It won’t be pretty.

If the word Buckeye doesn’t give it away .... and unless I’m mistaken Mr. McFrog lives in the Northeast (heavily Democrat) part of the State. Ohio is a bellwether because, except for climate, it is a virtual microcosm of America. Win Ohio and in nearly any national contest you win the election.
