Valverde needs to start working on next season with Toledo right now.
That said, he’s still the closer with most saves.
77...Catfish was of course a free agent, Thurman was home grown and were it not for that plane crash, would have been one of the all time yankee greats. Guidry was coming into this own and Sparky Lyle, wow. Reggie’s three homer last game of WS over the hated Dodgers. Great year.
Ugh, sounds like the Steelers or any team Brett Favre used to play for.
One OUSTANDING ballplayer, Derek Jeter! One of the greatest ever to play the game. Hopefully, he comes back next year and has another terrific year.

Nothing changes with Valverde’s delivery. Surely it has been built into a computer program and players have studied him until they have it down to a tee. It is obvious that the 49 game winner of last year is not so much of a threat anymore to the teams that can afford to study him.
But on top of all that . . . his voodoo magic as he enters the arena is not only played out, but totally ineffective. He is now just something for commentators to laugh at and mock.

My entire family is Yankees/Giants. My sister, and sometimes w/ my nephews, would go to many Yankee games. Just being in Yankee Stadium was exciting.
Unfortunately, they had to build “the new one”....in which I will NEVER step foot in. Yankee Stadium was FULL OF AMERICAN HISTORY. You could feel it, you could imagine all the old timers playing on that field. As I have stated, it was very exciting, each and every game. And SO much fun!
Unfortunately, I will never go to another Yankee game in that new stadium. Just not the same.
As for the Mets...pffft! Why on earth did they remove the Brooklyn Dodgers? They too were apart of American history.
It was the Dodgers vs. the Yankees, a very exciting time. Mets vs. Yankees just not the same. I will always see the Mets as “second” and NOT apart of American history.

Comerica Park in Detroit is a beautiful place but it will never hold a candle to the old Tiger Stadium.
add Rangers and Knicks to the Yanks and Giants. I guess I am kind of old time guy. Never could get interested in the Islanders, Jets, and definitely not the METS.
What is even more interesting to note, up until the 80s, most of these great players were making something under 100K. In fact I recall when getting 100K for the first time after his triple crown year in 56, Mantle had a bad year and was cut! He never got back to 100K again. Brutal. IMO, these guys today with their 25 million contracts playing in band box stadiums could not hold a candle to the greats prior to 80. As a deal old time friend of mine used to say, if the 27 Yanks played today (the 80’s), there was not enough ink to print the records.
Part of that has to be due to the crackdown of steroids. With roids you could sign a player for a 5,6,7+ year deal because they would continue to perform at peak well into their late 30s/early 40s. Now, it's "back to normal" where a player's decline usually begins in their early to mid thirties. So now you have a bunch of teams like the Yankees who have a roster of high priced, over the hill players who break down at the end of the year.
Our family never got into hockey and basketball. It was ALL baseball and football.
As a young girl, I was terribly bored having to sit and watch these games. Going to Yankee Stadium and watching was different. I have gone to a Giants game. Not the same, found it totally boring!

That’s because no matter how new and shiny it is.........it does not have the HISTORY behind it.
None of the old timers ever played there. I don’t think they take into consideration, when creating a new stadium, the history they leave behind, in which we are fond of.
I clearly remember the uproar of the “new” Yankee Stadium....and it’s outrageous prices! We were pissed!
Try listening to a Mets game when they play the Braves, the Mets announcers openly root for the Braves, especially Tim Hudson who for some reason they all have a disturbing, homo-erotic man crush on (well except Keith Hernandez who gets all ga-ga over Jason Heyward).
But yeah the announcers in last night's game were over the top with their Yankee rooting. The most outrageous was when they claimed the Yankees just look like they are not enthusiastic about the game, it's not that they are over priced prima donnas it's just that they are so great and have been there so many times they aren't panicking and it just looks like they aren't into the game.
P.S. I was totally in LOVE with Paul O’Neill. If he wasn’t married, I would have stalked him, jumped him and stuck my tongue down his throat. lol.

The old Tiger stadium was much more intimate. Every seat seemed like it was right up against the field. Even the cheap seats were great seats.
As far as history is concerned. I sat there and watched guys like Fydrich and Fielder, and Trammel from little more than 150 feet away.
Now I can't wait for another showdown between the Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals. (1968-2006-2012?) I wear the cap for whichever team is batting - and I can't lose. HA
