The goodnight kiss is a thing of the past and most of us sleep with our backs turned to our partner, according to a new study. The research into our nocturnal habits suggests romance is now dead in British bedrooms.
Indeed, a quarter of lovers say they cannot bear their partner touching them while they are sleeping.
The sleep behavior study found that 54 percent of Brits choose to turn away and sleep with their back to their lover in a bid to get a good night's sleep. And it isn't just cuddling that's off the agenda as 90 percent of couples don't utter the three important words "I love you" before turning out the lights.
And eight in ten couples no longer kiss before nodding off.

But I'm 19 and don't have a spouse, so what do I know about it.
You know nothing. Kissing my wife goodnight is the best thing of the day. Some day you will learn, grasshopper.
I’ve been happily married for 27 years and we’ve never done any of those things. Just who decides how people are supposed to sleep and what to say or do before falling asleep?
My favorite position is lying our our sides, back to back with my freezing feet placed firmly against his legs.
For some reason he doesn’t think that one’s very romantic. ;-)
I’ve been sleeping alone all my 27 years, and I’m allergic to cats and dogs so I have nothing to compare to.
Our cat does not help with his body heat. Tropics and no A/C have some drawbacks..........
After my father passed away, my mother mentioned that they would hold hands before going to sleep. They were married for over sixty years.
Finally, a place to find a new life partner, and wife, that one doesn’t have to adhere to all of those trivial habits.. Wonderful.. Those socialist/commies, really know how to teach’m..
Which is why I am confused by those "husband on the couch" routines. Why the heck would I want to give that up?
You aren’t married to a wiry haired goony bird who snores like a chain saw.
He snores and he is hairy. Still like to cuddle. :)
Oh my young man, you have so much to look forward to.. The tender kiss of a loving woman, the touch of your baby’s fingers on your face, and the hug from your elderly parent..
Cuddling with someone you love and that loves you before sleep, can remove any doubt that there is a God looking over you.. Trust me, I’m old enough to know whats good for you..
My sweet & sour candy likes the room way too cool for me so we sleep in different rooms. But I’ve never gone to bed one night in our 22 year marriage that he didn’t wish me good night with a loving hug and kiss and then we wish each other sweet dreams.
That is the sweetest thing I’ve read in years, thank you for sharing.
Rule number one - socks are mandatory.
This is perhaps the most inane article I’ve read this year.
You’re welcome. I’ve never seen them hold hands walking around, so it was a surprise to me and a sweet one at that.
My wife and I always make a point to give each other a kiss goodnight before going to sleep.
It’s worked for 28 years of marriage!
Which is why I am confused by those "husband on the couch" routines.
Shortly after we married my late wife started an argument and ordered me to the couch. I think she did it just to see if Id be obedient.
I went to bed, handed her a pillow and told her that if she didnt want to sleep with me she could use the couch. She stomped off to the living room looking confused I wasnt playing by the rules. Fifteen minutes later she was back, apologized and kissed me goodnight before snuggling up to me.
Beautiful words, absolutely true.
Junior, listen up good.
No it is not.
My grandpa says he sleeps right next to grandma, on her side of the bed................because that’s where the covers are.
We try to kiss goodnight but the dog jumps in the middle and breaks it up. :)
Cuddliness depends on the temperature. That said, neither one of us sleeps well without the other one. We usually talk a little and say our prayers before we go to sleep.(Married 21 years :-)
