For the most part, I think the seen-but-not-heard protocol is the best course for most FLOTUS, even the ones that I might agree with or appreciate. The husband was the one we elected (to this point, anyway) and she has no legal function. The fact she has a staff and a budget just flummoxes me.
It will be really interesting when the US eventually elects a woman as POTUS. I just can’t see her husband taking some ornamental, non-Constitutional, position in order to be seen “doing something important.” Maybe I’ll be surprised...
