Gov. Deval Patrick dismissed criticism today that his frequent campaign flying for Obama has distracted him while the state has been rocked by major scandals involving the state drug lab and a deadly fungal meningitis outbreak that started in a state-licensed compounding pharmacy.

“I’m glad they miss me,” Patrick said of his critics during a rare surprise visit to the State House press office this afternoon.

He also had a message for those he said are trying to score points by accusing him of neglecting his gubernatorial duties.

“The folks who were playing politics with my doing the political part of my job, I guess I would ask them whether they’re making time for their jobs,” said Patrick. “They should do theirs. I’m not worried about mine.”

He hits the road again tomorrow. He’s expected to be in New York tomorrow night to handle press at the presidential debate in support of Obama.

Let's ponder this situation. People dying from bad drugs produced by a MA firm. Hundreds of convicted felons being set loose because the state agency testing the evidence was a total mess.

Nothing to see here, folks. Cadillac Duval is doing just fine.
