Human remains found ravaged by one or more brown bears on a southeast Alaska island are likely from a Sitka man overdue on a boating trip

...

They also found evidence of a struggle. They followed a trail of disturbed vegetation and articles of clothing to the human remains, which had been partially eaten. The remains had been cached within 50 yards of the beach.

I wouldn’t ride in a tank through Alaska without a weapon.

One can only hope he was a liberal, bear loving, tree hugger. If not, then RIP

I wonder if he was carrying a heater. Something in a .454 in a holster.

Fishing alone in Alaska without a 454 Casull is a poor idea.

Wouldn’t have done him any good in a holster.

Some of the comments at the end of the article are really precious. They don’t have any idea just how voracious a brown bear is.

It’s a shame to hear of such a thing.. Sitka is a beautiful area, on our itinerary next spring and Haines too.. We never stray from the tourista zones tho.

This guy was just making a living, had to beach with engine troubles and unfortunately had a load of vittles onboard, the area is heavy with bear. damn.

I suspect any tree hugging looked like this:

From the article:
Puerta was a tree-thinner, Allen said. He was employed in an area that had been logged to cut young trees so others would have less competition and would grow faster.

Yes, this is really sad. You'd think a guy working there would be armed or at least have bear spray.

Feeding the bears Americans won’t feed.

Sorry.

It’s just his name, and reading an article about an illegal alien crime right before this. Maybe he was new to the area, American or not.

Sad end.

Thanks for the ping.

I find it hard to believe that this local man wasn't carrying a gun, yet there seems to be no mention of this in the article.

Terrible way to die.

Your a little overboard dont’cha think. I expect to see braindead idiocy like this on du but it disturbs me to see us lowering ourselves to the point of applauding the death of a fellow human regardless of his POLITICS.

That’s a bad way to go.

Be careful out there. Nature isn’t nice. Those cute bears are bigger, stronger, and faster than you. They also will attack if you are either food, or bothering them. Citiots don’t understand that.

Remember a couple years ago that idiot who went up there to study the Grizzlys and thought the bears adopted him into their inner family? Well, they ate him instead. I LOL because his dad told him: “ study Grizzly bears!! Son, you will never amount to $h!t.” Well, it turned out the dad was wrong, he did end up as bear $h!t.

From what it says in the article these are more like brown polar bears then grizzly bears. I wonder what makes them more like polar bears?
