The untippable motorcycle with 'car-like controls' CLARKE BOWLING Thursday, August 30, 2012

The all-electric, gyroscope-enhanced C-1 from Lit Motors brings the familiar controls of the automobile to the mobility of a motorcycle, all with safety and efficiency in mind.

The San Francisco-based startup hopes to get the vehicle into production by 2014, reports the Detroit News. The electric vehicle will boast a 200 miles per charge driving range, a top speed of 120 mph, and the ability to withstand the impact of a large SUV without tipping over.

In other words, everything that makes motorbikes fun has been designed out of it.

And I bet you STILL have to wear a helmet.

Absolutely. The whole point of making these 2- or 3-wheel vehicles is is to get them classed as motorcycles so that the safety standards are not as stringent. Which means that all laws pertinent to motorcycles apply to them.

“It might make a great summer vehicle.” Depends on where you live. On a typicall Texas summer day it would only be about 140 degrees inside.

Single seater. No room for groceries. Its a toy. No practical use.

Wonder what the range drops to, when you turn on the AC, heater, and/or electronic gizmos.

And I bet you STILL have to wear a helmet.

I think they will have trouble selling it. Car drivers will have to get a motorcycle license, while motorcycle riders will worry about their machismo (though the prototype/mockup is quite neat...).

i’d be worried that the car driving idjits would not hear
it coming and would change lanes into me. much as they do now even with 3 glaring led lights amid the deafening roar of stage 1 pipes.. less situational awareness than a conventional MC with the canopy..

what if the gyro fails? instantly out of control.

obviously these poeple don’t ride motorcycles in real life.

definately, if a two-wheeled vehicle encloses the rider then additional measures MUST be taken to keep it from “tipping over”, as even at a stop the rider is unable to put one foot down on the pavement until ready to power forward again

even if the vehicle is rated to survive being hit by an SUV, I would no more want to be it’s rider than to be the rider of any motorcycle that is hit by an SUV

all of that said, I have always enjoyed riding motorcycles
