Hartford -- A new TV ad by Republican U.S. Senate nominee Linda McMahon gleefully points out a gaffe in her opponents latest ad that confused a diesel submarine of the Royal Norwegian Navy with a Groton-built sub.
In the ad by the Democrat Chris Murphy, a narrator tells how the Connecticut jobs Chris Murphys helped create...launched new subs in Groton. Meanwhile, a short video clip of a surfaced submarine flashes on the screen.
McMahons new ad does a close-up of the subs flag, revealing that it is indeed a Norwegian flag and not a U.S. vessel.
Her campaign staff announced the finding this morning. They identified the sub in Murphys ad as a Ula Class submarine, built in Norway, France and Germany.
Todd Abrajano, McMahons campaign spokesman, said they were alerted to the initial misidentification by EB workers.
We got some calls from supporters at EB and they said that's not a boat that we build, Abrajano said. "This shows that Chris Murphy certainly doesn't pay attention to the details and is fast and loose with the facts.
A Murphy campaign spokesman, Eli Zupnick, said the video clip in their ad was stock footage; he did not dispute his opponents claims about the flag and vessel. He accused McMahon of attempting to distract from the real issues in the race.
"Chris is focused on creating real middle class jobs in Groton and across the state, while Linda McMahon is focused on gotcha attacks that dont create a single job for families in this state," Zupnick said.
The two candidates are set to debate later today at 7 p.m. in the Garde Arts Center in New London.
Sounds like a Dukakis in a tank moment for Murphy.
Heck the DNC used Russian ships so at least they are consistent.
This would be funny, if the two characters running weren’t so sad.
Need a picture of a submarine? Well ... I think Norway has some of those.
Need a picture of some surface ships? Hmmmm ... Russia's got some.
Need a picture of some fighter jets? Hey! Turkey has some good ones!
Doing some speechifying and need an example of the type of small arms our soldiers carry into battle? May I suggest the AK-47?
Really, really weird.
They are reflexively anti-patriotic. To show photographs of US military hardware in a favorable light would go against their bedrock priciples of blaming the US first for everything.
The US has not built a diesel submarine in decades, which means US subs are designed to cruise underwater, not on the surface. Therefore, no US submarines have an angled bow. Rather, the deck slopes off gradually to a bow that is pointed at the tip of the boat. It has been that way for the past thirty years, at least.
Also, this thing looks like a bathtub toy compared to the much larger US nuclear powered subs.
I’m working for a candidate for a CT State Rep seat. The candidate is a retired submarine officer and most of us on the campaign committee are military connected. Our first post card draft from the design company included a photo of a Russian submarine. Fortunately we were paying attention.

If it was a JMSDF boat there would be some excuse: they have the big boat look
But
That would be ok to work with. Just gave the graphic designer superimpose a set of crosshairs over it ...
Or John Kerry (Who served in Viet Nam) looking like a sperm cell:
That was when he tried to get Kennedy Space Center Employees and NASA followers to vote for him. He is in a cleanroom suit because Contamination Control Engineering requires all personnel to wear them to aid in the cleanliness of the Crew Module. Skin cells, hair and other particles float in space and that can make the Astronauts sick which could threaten their life or cause the mission to not be successful. I was a Contamination Control Engineer.

Oh man, I drooled over that ad when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing that, Doc.
There was some upper management twerp who insisted on taking us through the clean room and expounding his wisdom. No bunny suits or hair nets, nothing.
Our instructor and even a few students told him repeatedly that this raelly wasn't a good idea, but this guy was on a power trip. We heard later that he got in a lot of trouble over it.
I should have mentioned - that clean room our class walked around in was used for making ICs.
I always wanted to get one of those when I was a kid. :(
Many IC’s died that day due to his power trip! I have encountered no brainers like that in my career. ICs are relatively easy to replace Astronauts are not! though I wish we had a manned program now instead of Russia and China! one of the Biggest Lies Obama told! but nobody cares seemingly, atleast none that are in power! I fear us becoming Portugal! If you don’t understand the reference check exploration history.
