This is something I've been wondering for some time and am now putting it forward to FReepers in hopes of educating me and others.
If we, as conservatives, believe in Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, the Constitution, and all that was written down by the Founding Fathers (our founding principles), how come we are not members of the Constitution party? Why is the Republican Party better than choosing the Constitution Party?

What is the purpose of bringing up this discussion question at this late date in the election cycle. The time for this was months and months ago.
To me, this only could succeed in further confusing the support we have in our arsenal at present to oust this tyrant.
Regardless of whether it is a “good old boy” network or even whether a “two-party system” is a good or bad idea, it comes down to pragmatism and realism.
The Libertarian Party has some lunatics whose only priority in life is decriminalizing all forms of narcotics and recreational drugs. It also has some very reasonable advocates of limited government. It has a much larger political infrastructure and organization than the Constitutional Party and typically has its nominee in the Presidential race on the official ballot in all 50 states. Yet, how many representatives does the LP have in congress? Maybe 2 or 3? How many Senate seats does the LP have? (Hint: the number is sometimes used as a substitute for the big O.)
If we as Constitutional Conservatives decide to abandon the GOP and adopt the Constitutional Party instead, how long are we willing to wander in the wilderness as we try to establish the new Constitutional Party to replace the GOP? How long are we willing to cede control of both houses and the presidency to the democrats who will sieze the opportunity to move their party and the country even further to the left?
You want serious open and honest discussion? Then start off by answering this question: (1) How long are you willing to give the dems total control to move the country further left while the Constitutional Party transitions itself as the replacement of the Republican Party?
AGREED. OUR MISSION RIGHT NOW is to CLEAR OUT the WHITE HOUSE and get ROMNEY IN! THEN we will readdress the " PARTY" question. END of discussion for me.
I plan to keep my vow of not voting for Romney, and in fact plan to write in Virgil Goode. The Republican party’s refusal to explore the Fraud-in-Chief’s obvious ineligibility was enough to convince me the Republicans are pure traitors. I won’t say I’ll never vote Republican again in the future, but I am definitely out of the party.
What you will get are elections where the Constitutional candidate gets 30% of the vote, the Republican gets 30% of the vote, and the Democrat wins with 40% of the vote.
You can either change the laws to force repeated voting until someone breaks 50%, or you can run your Constitutional candidate as a Republican in the primaries. The latter is what we have been attempting to do.
So form a Constitutional wing of the Republican Party and run your candidates. If you don't win in the primary, vote for the most conservative candidate in the general election.
I think that is the basis of any answer. It's either join one of the two parties or get sufficient number of like minded people to join in order to change the direction of that party. JMO, yours may differ.
But I agree, if we win this election, maybe we can buy enough time to build our own party.
The Republican Party has trained us to vote against the other canidate, never to vote for (in favor of) one. I hate to vote for Romney but will because he is best for our country.
We are never going to get to vote for a middle class neighbor because those elected now have passed laws insuring their reelection.
Even the tea party while many are Christian, shys away from taking an open Godly path.
I no longer believe we elect our president, but is decided by others who don’t care which one wins because there isn’t a a dimes worth of difference between them.
Ok, some of you are already going on the defensive about my question when it isn’t necessary.
I do not expect to have people change parties in mid-stream but want to know why, when conservatives are more aligned with the Constitutional Party than we are with GOP, all conservatives don’t move to the CP?
The argument that we should stay with GOP because there’d be lower numbers to win election due to three-way split doesn’t mesh with me because in my way of thinking if 30% of Repubs moved over to join the 30% CP, then we’d be 60% (hypothetically speaking).
Therefore, are you saying that fear and manipulation are keeping us to the two-party system?

It’s fear....until we get enough people who UNDERSTAND the Constitution and can influence the GOP, and get the votes (let alone the Democrats) we must work within the system. The goal is to take over the GOP with Constitution Party types. It takes time, but we are working at it and making progress, IMHO.

Actually when you step back and look at the last two years, or more, the Tea Party has begun to do just this. To BUILD a new conservative Party. Sarah Palin, and Lloyd Marcus being in the forefront. We need not to divert our energy less than three weeks from the most important election in our nation's history.
For those of you " contitutionalists" who wish to toss the election to the most UNCONSTITUTIONAL president ever, you are not representing our Founding Fathers well by getting behind obama with your throw away vote.
Voting for a third party for whatever reason is ceding control of one's future.
We have never had a barack obama before to help wake up up and realize just how close we are to losing our country.
In 2008 McCain broke this for me; I guess that's the only good thing about his running: it showed me how utterly inept the Republican party is at fighting for what it claims it is going to do. (When was the last time the Republican Party actually pushed for something in its stated party planks? Hell, this convention is a prime example: add a "not even for incest or rape" to the abortion stance... and nominate an "it's ok in the case of rape"-type.)

Good point; though I'm coming to believe that some portions of our system are absolutely against a Godly way -- Read James 5 and then consider taxes, particularly 'withholding.'

This is called Morton's Fork; it aptly describes this election where the Democrat and the Republican will both implement Socialism if elected.
Your question prompted me to read the Republican Party platform. Perhaps it will help answer your question. Just the preamble tells a great deal.
