Top things a Romney administration could do for economy without spending a lot of tax money

This is a positive thread about the top things a Romney administration could do to get the economy moving again, without the government paying a lot of money.

Reverse all drilling bans imposed by Obama.

This can be done the first day. Do not listen to anyone who brings out the tired "it will take ten years to get any oil" argument. First, it will not take ten years, it will be more like three. But most importantly, the jobs start immediately after the permit is issued. It takes work to get the oil out of the ground, and we want that to be happening as much as we want the oil. This also includes the Keystone pipeline.

Obamacare

Dump it. Preferrebly, dump the whole idea that employers should provide health insurance at all. Employers can give their employees money, and emoployees can buy their own insurance. This will lower the cost of hiring workers, and by having individuals in charge of their own health care, will encourage shopping based upon price.

Tort reform / Loser pays reform

By lowering damages for frivilous lawsuits, prices for all goods and services can come down.

Allow ethanol fuel for vehicles to be made from any source of ethanol, not just corn.

Ethanol can be made more cheaply from other sources, so it would lower the cost of fuel at the pump if ethanol was made from cheaper sources than corn. Coal and natural gas can be used to produce ethanol. We already have E85 vehicles, and so 85% of the fuel for those can come from coal and natural gas, which is easier than converting our fueling infrastructure to support more natural gas vehicles.

Thorium

With a small amount of funding/tax encouragement, we can develop standard designs for Thorium nuclear reactors, which are cheaper than nuclear, and we have plentiful supplies of thorium.

Self driving cars

Private business are investing heavily in this area, and it would be a great increase in productivity for the economy to have self driving cars. There will also be a jobs boom inplementing the hardware and software infrastructure for this. There isn't a lot of funding necessary from the government, but federal and states could take the lead in encouraging the development, implementation and standards for communication between cars, and cars and infrastructure.

Self sailing ships

The same idea as self driving cars, but with our network of river and intercoastal waterway commercial craft of barges and ships. Barges and ships can be pilotless and communicating with each other to bring down shipping costs, relieving traffic on roads and rail, and bring down export costs, such as for exporting grain. This would only require government money for a communications infrastructure, such as the current FAA and air traffic control. The technology is available for self driving cars, but is currently too expensive for consumer cars. However, for shipping it is not too expensive, as the technology is a small part of a multimillion dollar ship. It could be implemented on ships faster.

Self driving cars? No thanks.

Your choice, of course, but you will be sharing the road with them faster than you think. In fact, if you live in the Bay area, you already have been.

Repeal the criminalization of light bulbs.

Go after obama’s hidden assets gained during his presidency. That should rescue a few billion. Bill the Mooch for the vacations.

Freeze, then confiscate Al Gore’s assets and deport him to his home planet.

Haahahaha...that would be poetic justice...Gore with frozen assets...do we have the capability to reach Assholia? Why not just throw him back in the sea like they did in free willy?

Have a HUGE lease sale on public lands in ANWR and others and use money towards federal deficit.

Have a “return profits to USA” amnesty program for corporations to return assets and investment money without any penalties.

Good suggestion. there is over a trillion dollars parked overseas by American companies that could be invested here, if the business climate and tax climate allowed it.

A self-driving car is about as appealing as artificial insemination.

And worse, handing control of your movements over to a central power, even if it’s an infallible computer, is a big mistake, a slippery slope I don’t want to go down. A self-driving car is exactly what Big Brother wants to keep the proles under control.

Do you think for a minute that your self-driving car wouldn’t be tied into a central computer capable of monitoring your every movement?

You will have to pry my steering wheel and stick shift from my cold, dead hands.

The title is silly. There is nothing Romney can do FOR the economy by spending any money. For instance ; thorium- just change the regulations, eliminating many or most (and firing the associated bureaucrats charged with enforcing the dropped regulations) to favor thorium.

That is my point. We need to focus on cutting the budget, but we can still pursue a positive agenda without spending a lot of money or creating new bureaucracies. Small regulatory changes can have a large effect on the economy by opening up new markets, or allowing competition where there currently isn't any. This is not a "Romney's Solandra" thread, where I want him to waste money "investing" on things industry could do.

Day one in the name of fairness Romney could, by executive order, direct the IRS to collect capital gains taxes only on the real, ie inflation adjusted, increases in the value of assets. It is certainly unfair that the US currently taxes inflationary gain of assets.

Removing this unfair taxation of inflation would certainly spur business formation and expansion. It would spur employment and tax revenues too.

2. Ditto for the EPA

3. Deregulate the railroad

4. Make three felonies equals life in prison for all states

5. Appoint real conservative constitutionalist judges to all benches

I completely agree. However, starting in 2015, all vehicles will have black boxes which can track you. The privacy issues will happen to everyone whether or not the car is self powered. That is another issue, although I am strongly on the side of privacy.

But here's a question. Would you buy a pizza if it is delivered by a self driving car?

If he only did the first two things on your list, we would see an economic rebound like no one has seen before.

‘Why not just throw him (algore)back in the sea like they did in free willy?’

eh. . I thought we were worried about the oceans rising and flooding the coastal cities. This would of course cause that to actually come true. Not due to global warming but to glabal rescue.

1.Get us out of the United Nations

2.Stop all Agenda 21 Programs such as Smart Meters

3.Change the ID used to apply for government programs to require a thumb print and a name. That will stop the fraud of using six names.

4. Make English the National Language. Stop printing forms in 44 different languages.

To go a step further allow school vouchers for any child to recieve their education. Let the public schools compete for those dollars and see how good our education gets overnight. Since the unions took over CA education has slipped from #1 in this country to #50 and in a country that has slipped from #1 worldwide to #37. AND THEY STILL WANT MORE.

May of us in Freeper land live in communities with a District Hospital that is partially supported by tax dollars. How good do you believe health would be at those institutions if everyone in the community HAD to get their healthcare only at that hospital. You would get big salaries . You would get big majestic building but no one would be competing for your business.
