This week's feature is Howard Hawks' excellent 1939 classic adventure about courageous mail pilots in South America and the women who love them. Cary Grant exceeds in a John Wayne/Humphrey Bogart-type role as their leader and the beautiful Rita Hayworth impresses in one of her earliest performances as his ex-flame. Definitely one of Hawks' best and the finest of his 5 films starring Mr. Grant.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

“Only Angels Have Wings” is one of my favorite movies of all time. Or as I think of it, “Calling Barranca.”

It’s best on a rainy afternoon, or late at night.

It was a WWII-prep movie. If you squint, you can se that it’s a war movie, without the war. I think it was made to start to get across the mindset necessary for Americans to deal with WWII. A lot of Bogey movies are like that, too.

I don’t know why it takes me away, it just does. I also got to see it on a big screen once, in an old theater. Loved it!

Saw it on the 19 inch screen for the first time in the last year or two. Great flick.

It’s a great movie. Saw it for the first time just a few years ago. The dialogue is just fantastic.

Hayworth is nice, but Jean Arthur is the real hottie in this movie, and an excellent comedienne.

One could say Jean is OAHW’s Mary Ann while Rita Hayworth is the film’s Ginger.

Cool! OAHW would be a good film to see on a big screen in an old theater. I got to see “Casablanca” that way for the first time. And your point about OAHW being a war movie without the war is on-target. It and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” were the inspiration for the later TV series “Tales of the Gold Monkey.”
