In violent urban survival scenario… violence is the easy part.

When times are hard, people show all kinds of their characteristics, or faces, or real face, call it whatever you like.

That is another reason why it is not so popular to talk or write in details about that time. Some people did bad things and survived, or good things and died, or people just acted strange in that time.

Again a lot of combinations. People later do not want to discuss about that, they do not want to remember that. Over the time man can really force himself to believe that he did not do some things, even if he did them.

I’ve said often having the “stuff” you need is only part. A big part is having the mindset to get through it.

Hunger can bring out the worst in people, but so can many other things. What about extreme sleep deprivation? Heat or cold, or wet and being unable to get warm? Unfamiliar circumstances and places?

And as much as we can complain about our sundry humdrum predictable lives, what about extreme unpredictability?

All of these factors will stress people. And a person under stress is more likely to make a mistake.

Good article. Have to think what it would be like here. “Hoarders” will likely be hunted. Keep it to yourself!

Someone the other day described what’s happening perfectly; they said it’s like being in a car wreck you are driving along you see a car coming at you he’s not stopping for the red light there’s no place for you to go you know for sure he is going to hit you and then everything slows down like a scene from some action movie the car coming seems to be crawling you can even see the surprise on the other drivers face. When he hits you the flying glass seems to hang in the air for a second and all the time there ain’t a damn thing you can do, but pray you survive.

Personally I we will see something much like the collapse of Argentina ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yerKMQc7-w&feature=grec_index )but on a global scale.

As far as the election either way it goes I believe we will soon see social unrest, the closer the election gets the more things will become like walking a mine field and a miss step and things can and will exploded.

Despite the CDC’s tongue and cheek presentation for National Preparedness Month, there really are Zombies, just not the kind from George A. Romero films. They have been fed from the Government’s stash and walked among us for years now and many have been caught on film, but it was in a movie it was for real:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4F8ob9nlfY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2Ykj92c9v8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnpqBb_7PJ4

These and many more like events show (Flash Mobs, OWS, etc) that we have a large entitlement minded population that is violent prone. I think that during a collapse you will see many small businesses wiped out by flash mob looting, and once started it will quickly spread to rape, robbery and murder for murder sake. You will see what I call ‘pocket pogroms’ and if you ain’t ‘Amish’ you better not be around when they come.

Already some cities that are or have gone broke the zombies numbers are going like Detroit:

Enter At Your Own Risk: Police Union Says ‘War-Like’ Detroit Is Unsafe For Visitors

http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2012/10/06/enter-at-your-own-risk-police-union-says-war-like-detroit-is-unsafe-for-visitors/

And not just big blue cities. Here’s a story about Stockton California:

Murder, Rape, Robbery and Assault Skyrocket In Bankrupt Stockton, California

http://www.shtfplan.com/headline-news/murder-rape-robbery-and-assault-skyrocket-in-bankrupt-stockton-california_10242012

Much of what we are starting to see has been predicted by the author of this article about what we can look forward to:

When The Music Stops – How America’s Cities May Explode In Violence

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2926391/posts

Many of these ‘zombies’ will think no more about killing you to get ‘stuff’ than zombies in the lastest horror flick and do it just as gruesomely as any of the worse scenes in those same movies.

Many of you who have read my post know I often refer to this quote from Star Trek Deep Space Nine: “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Siege of AR-558 (#7.8)” (1998)

Quark: “Let me tell you something about Hew-mons, Nephew. They’re a wonderful, friendly people, as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people... will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty Klingon. You don’t believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes.”

It has repeated been shown throughout history that this is what happens to people once placed under such stressful conditions and yet you would be surprised how many people don’t realize the transformations that can take place under such conditions. And because of their ignorance many won’t even live long learn.

If you want to learn what happens I suggest you read some of Selco’s firsthand experiences in Bosnia:

A Survival Q & A: Living Through SHTF In The Middle Of A War Zone

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2798007/posts

Clearly there’s a storm coming, as great as a hurricane and like you do when a hurricane comes your way you either prepare to weather it or you become a victim of it.

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

http://tomeaker.com/kart/Preparedness1j.pdf

NOTE! THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. I DO NOT MAKE ONE CENT OFF MY PREPAREDNESS MANUAL!

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.
As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.
Underestimation can be fatal.”

Having a hell of a time posting here, last few days.

Very sentient article. On the internet everyone’s a badass- he brings to light a phenomenon some warriors( I don’t consider myself one)have reported.

Our lives are typically a grinding regimen of dull routine punctuated by defining moments or even seconds.

Everyone has weak spots, but together we may make a family, a community, or a nation.

I think a certain percentage of people will get violent very quickly. Others will be forced to respond in like fashion or die.

I believe women have an edge over men when it comes to bad smells and dealing with sights of sick people, even people dying in front of their eyes and they care for this person until death, watching that death process day after day.

Women are generally the “cleaners” whether it is baby poop or grown up poop of sick people (which would be wounded people as well in a SHTF situation). Women are generally the “nurses” as well, bandaging oozing wounds, cleaning wounds, treating wounds, etc. – seeing bad sights. It usually starts with our children and we learn to deal with it – turn off our smell receptors and clean the child after bowel movements - do what must be done. Men generally turn away from this task. It seems men have difficulty with bad smells. Now, I know some of you men will say nothing phases you, and if that is true, good for you.

Dealing with the sound of gun fire and mortars hitting, is different than smells. I have never screamed in my life. Screaming takes time. If it’s an emergency, I’m moving, not wasting time screaming. I have been in two car wrecks, and moving quickly was a good thing. On one occasion, the car had turned over and dumped me in the back seat. My skirt was caught on something and I could small gasoline but couldn’t move – my brain said, “GET OUT!”. I started ripping the skirt and when it let go, I went out a window and got away from the car. I had on half a skirt at that time. That skirt was fairly heavy material and I’m sure it was adrenalin that allowed me the strength to rip it quickly.

I know if I heard gun fire or mortars hitting, I would be thinking of my next move – the direction of the sound would cause me to move or stay still. It would be great to have a he-man around who knew what to do, but I don’t count on anyone but myself knowing what to do. Maybe the many mortars would freak me out, but I’ll be thinking about that so it won’t be the first time I considered it. I think mental planning, going through situations in your mind, what you would do first and next, etc. is life saving practice.

Excellent articles. Another thing I might add is that preppers should try to expand their plans to include “what if” scenarios to prepare themselves mentally for decisions that must be made instantaneously .... hesitation will kill. I have read many SHF books and the one good thing I can say that I got from all of them (no matter how poor some of them were written) were scenarios or situations that I had not been aware of and which I could then anticipate and plan or prepare for mentally or physically.

I'm perfectly happy to have wimmenz around to handle wounded and bratlings. I can do it, but I'm not happy about it. I managed to never once change a grandchild's diaper.

The sound of gunfire, cannonfire (especially A-10 cannonfire) and the krump of other assorted arty and mortars, gives me a warm fuzzy, generally. I grew up around it. Jets screaming overhead also tend to make me grin, and I can't control that.

You do what you do when stuff goes south. Some scream and shout, some work the problem. You never know until you have been through it.

I do know that me and Jesus are ok with me bleeding out on the side of a mountain during a blizzard.

I highly disrecommend the experience, though. A kidney turning into pulp because of blunt trauma leaves you unable to even scream.

Good article. Have to think what it would be like here. “Hoarders” will likely be hunted. Keep it to yourself!

I transcribed conversations from a focus group of liberals in which a discussion on the proper role of government turned to SHTF. The consensus was that if shortages occur in a social breakdown, the hardships caused by empty stores would be the fault of hoarders who take more than their share. Their conclusion was that the correct response would be for government to take back any excess that hoarders take from the community. Since the government is the people, if the governmental structure is not functioning enough to do their job, then individuals and groups have the right to take any excess back from hoarders. To the extent that liberals think, they side with the zombie horde.

Excellent point. Gender roles exist for a reason...I believe we’re just simply ‘hard-wired’ that way.
