first GOP since Nixon
That is a pretty damn big endorsement considering the Des Moines Register is a very liberal paper(Or so I have been told) one of the editors was on Bill O’Reilly’s show a few days ago and she thought for sure the paper would endorse Obama so this is a surprise
Pigs...pigs flying out my window...
Is this the paper where obozo did not want to do the interview on the record?
please post to the gang I am on my samsung tablet.
Yep, that’s the one.
That might leave a mark.
Ditto that wow. I had a Register morning route in the late 70’s, and it’s always been the “official” - read liberal - paper of record in Iowa.
As Biden would say, “This is a big effin deal!”
Is this a good thing?
Death knell for Obama... Benhgazi’s a bitch.
OMG a paper that hasn’t endorsed a Repub in 50 years inc. a Carter 2nd term wants nothing to do with Bambi...devastating. Put Iowa in the win column. Backup Plan B is starting to fall into place (win without Ohio)
Amazing. Just wow.
Hah! O’Reilly was certain they would end up endorsing Obama, even after the off-the-record interview snafu. Good news.
I guess the endorsement might help some “undecideds” make up their minds. For us on FR it would not make a difference. Any help we can get is always welcomed.
Huge!! This will startle a lot of people

Good news for Romney. I am not sure how much endorsements from papers mean anymore since they are pretty archaic. Big City papers like NY Times, WaPO, LA Times, dont carry much weight due to their major subscribers. But in a state like Iowa, in a close election, and flipping from Obama to Romney is significant. It will cause a lot of local talk across Iowa this next week. Which probably will help Romney in this case.
(and by the way, Romney WILL win OH)
I saw this coming after their “Happy Warrior vs. Skeletor” front page a few days ago. Love it.
Enough to push Iowa to Romney.
Which assures Romney of at least a tie. Which the House would turn to a win.
What’s next, Pravda?
wow. The drip is turning into a stream..
Bam Bam and Moochelle should buy a retirement home in Benghazi. In fact, they could renovate the embassy. What do you think? He could retire among his friends, the rebels and enjoy the Arab Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall.
I’m technologically challenged, but didn’t they run a not -so-flattering side by side of Barry with Romney on the front page the other day?( That’s when I thought Romney’s getting their endorsement). Everyone kept telling me “No way”. Can somebody post that pic for me. :) Thanks!
Excellent point, for sure, but I’m skeptical that the Register is going to regain a semblance of sanity.
Answered prayers. . . .
I almost fell over when the local newspaper here in the South Bay of So. Cal endorsed Romney recently. The Daily Breeze. All the props they endorsed and several other local candidates were mostly Rat infested or lib oriented. I was very surprised.
But the LA Slimes fell in lib lock step as usual.
HUH??? WHAAAAT TF???
this is as BIG as newspaper endorsements go. I think the Register really is the “paper of record” for Iowa. All the drama that led up to the endorsement, with Barry trying to “cover up” his own interview(LOL) gave this big coverage in Iowa and nationwide. Plus of course Iowa is a swing state.
The on-line article was posted 7:00pm Saturday, so it would be the Sunday edition.
I agree that this is big.
Having lived in Iowa for some time I can attest that the Des Moines Register is one of those few city papers that is distributed state-wide and viewed as a state-wide publication.
It's OK to abandon Obama.
“Im skeptical that the Register is going to regain a semblance of sanity.”
Me either! But we take what we can get. Right!?
Distribution of the Register outside of the Des Moines metro area has become spotty at best in recent years.
By the wording below hey are obviously delusional.
Both President Barack Obama and Governor Romney are superbly qualified. Both are graduates of the Harvard University Law School who have distinguished themselves in government, in public service and in private life. Both are devoted husbands and fathers.
When has Obummer distinguished himself “in government, in public service and in private life”.
He was a do-nothing US senator for two years, and has accomplished nothing of note in public service, except smoking dope while hanging around with male prostitutes.
I would take this endorsement with a grain of salt.
By what scenario do you determine a 269-269 tie?
I'm using 270toWin.com, and if they have their electoral votes right, if the swing states go as follows:
Romney: FL, NC, VA, CO, NH, IA, ME-CD2
Obama: NV, MI, PA, WI, OH
then Obama wins, 270 to 268.
I don’t think I’m saying anything most Freepers don’t know, but if Romeny fails to win Ohio, then he must win Wisconsin + either Iowa or New Hampshire. And all three of of these last states appear to be trending Romney’s way.
That’s just how it’s done.
“Is this the paper where obozo did not want to do the interview on the record?”
As was answered earlier, yes, that’s the one. But...
I guess I’m stoopid for even asking, but what’s the point of giving an “interview” with a newspaper if you’re not going to let it be published?
This is a big fxxxxxg deal!
Good thing if you are Romney. Bad thing if you are obama.
