Anyone have any idea what may be causing this? Only happens on Freerepublic.com

Only happens when I click My Comments, has happened for the last 2-3 weeks, Completely cleared out my browser to ensure it wasn't me.

Did you think to ask the admin moderator or Jim?

Someone probably pinged you to a post and the ping included a picture/image from a .mil website, and they linked it with a https prefix.

Do you, or someone using your computer, connect to a DOD Defense Acquisition website? That would be for Defense Procurement or government contracting.

The acc.dau.mil site website banner reads:

Acquisition Community Connection
Where the Defense Acquisition Workforce Meets to Share Knowledge

Don’t know about your situation but earlier with me it was like I was using DOS 2.1 on an old dial-up modem, typing a sentence then and waiting and watching seconds later as each letter appeared. I actually counted to 18 after I typed the sentence before the first letter appeared and then I could count to 1 or 2 before the next letter appeared...

I shut down (cold boot) and ran AVG full scan ... came up 0 (no problems), everything is working fine ... I did not have the presence nor insight / forethought to check any other programs before I shut down to see if they were running slow as well ... it was just taking so long for any operation to happen that I just wanted to shut down so that I could scan for a Virus ... it did take a few minutes even after I did a forced shut down.

Don’t know what happened but all reports from all scans show that everything is OK and all protection measures are intact and functional.

Might just have been a memory glitch

TT

FR doesn't use SSL by and large, if at all.

Does the URL you are fetching begin with https://www.freerepublic.com/whatever?

What browser are you using? The dialogs you posted don't look like what a normal browser would show if alerting on a faulty SSL certificate.

Well I'm getting security warnings from it even when I go back to the main *see posts* menue, not on just this thread.
Whatever it is, it's being blocked from coming up on my machine, which is good.

Here's what I get from Firefox trying to fetch that page (red text added):

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to acc.dau.mil, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.Get me out of here!

Technical Details

acc.dau.mil uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

I Understand the Risks

They are likely using a self-signed certificate, which means the connection is secure, but the identity of the server is unproven (i.e., it might be the bank or it my be Ivan, here, but eavesdroppers can't read it).

I would just ignore it. Unless you were trying to communicate secure information to the site in question (e.g., it's your bank or broker), you should be entertained, not worried.
