In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

bathetic \buh-THET-ik\, adjective
Displaying or characterized by insincere emotions: the bathetic emotionalism of soap operas.

Example sentences:
The bathetic quality of "instant cliche" endings is to some extent counterbalanced by the kind of ending which combines plot-contortion with climactic enlightenment…
-- Heterocosms, Heterocosms

Attempts to capture the awe and pain of dying can often, alas, come out sounding either bathetic or satiric.
-- Nancy Kress, Characters, Emotion and Viewpoint

Etymology:
Based on the more common word pathetic, bathetic entered English in the 1830s. It comes from the Greek word bathos which meant "depth."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

And when will the media question the ozero campaign about him? They were all over Romney about what candidates were saying but they were only running for office, not senators.

Last night Beck called out the network news people who he knows have the damaging emails that Newt was talking about.

He said that if this story comes out later, after the election from some other source, that he will reveal who was keeping the lid on this before the election.

It is unbelievable how they think they can cover for him, they need to be stripped of this power over outcomes completely, once and for all. I hope whoever knows who has them brings every ounce of pressure to bear on them that they possibly can.

As Obama stands and delivers multiple promises from his presidential podium, his minions swoon over his magnificent oratory and their faith in the better times he promises; yet, the wise citizens recognize his bathetic presentation as the tool of seduction used by all tyrants.

While washing the kids, and now the granded kids, the bathetic screams (of joy?) as they get lathered up then thoroughly douched out by buckets of water to rinse off “everything” are as much fun to hear as to they are to produce.

Great article.

I would have liked to have seen more from Catholics when it comes to opposing this POTUS. We may not have had a chance to vote against Henry VIII but we can against Obama and that’s the next best thing.

Bathetic

I took a path pathetic to the creek for a bath bathetic. And under the sky, so cold was I that I left quite energetic.

we hear plenty opposition from the Catholics, it’s the CINOs that are the problem, and the ones supporting the Obams. it’s just unfortunate there are the # of CINOs that there are. Why they don’t just run to those anglican or episcopal churches that SUPPORT the policies they love, i have no idea. SG i know your church does not, but as a denomination, Episopals at the top are in line with the CINO thinking on social issues, more so than the Pope and Catholic church hierarchy.

I have a friend in Florida whose Catholic church must be all “social justice” all the time. It’s very sad.
