German brain researchers have successfully induced Tourettes syndrome symptoms in healthy people for the first time, using powerful magnetic pulses. They hope it could lead to a non-drug treatment.
The scientists at the University of Düsseldorf were researching the mechanism behind one of the symptoms of Tourettes, known as echophenomenainvoluntarily repeating the words or movements of others.
They managed to induce this reaction in healthy human subjects by stimulating the supplementary motor area (SMA) of the brain, which controls movement. This could lead to non-drug therapy to reduce tics and repetitions in Tourettes patients.

Stimulate it with pictures of Biden, Hillary, Obama, or all three? Or do they produce more of an emetic effect?
Okay, snark aside, this is pretty neat. Thanks for posting it.

With all due respect to those who truly suffer from this debilitating syndrome, all I need is MSNBC to trigger a similar outcome.

I worked for years in a big city ER and one evening we had a guy in the waiting room,a visitor rather than a patient, who had Tourette’s.He was white and his “tick” was to shout racial slurs.A number of the other folks in the waiting room were black, including several young, virile guys. The charge nurse had to take those guys aside and give them a crash course on Tourette’s in order to prevent a riot.It was a scary situation.

I suspect the voters will induce temporary Tourette’s in the liberal half of the country on Tuesday next week. :)

Shouldn’t they be trying to stop Tourette’s rather than induce it? Well, if this were a Captain Marvel comic book, I think the hero would undo the Tourette’s by reversing the polarity.
