Word For The Day, Thursday, November 8, 2012 - sequacious
dictionaries ad nauseam | 8 November 2012 | Thursday's sub

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

sequacious \sih-KWAY-shus\, adjective
Intellectually servile

Example sentences:
Eager to prove that he was not merely a sequacious follower, Mario wrote a critical review of his former mentor's book.

"Fund investors are not simply sequacious followers of yield, but are also responding to the federal government's actions to stabilize the macro-economic environment."
— From an article by Matthew Sheahan in High Yield Report, January 12, 2009

Etymology:
"Sequacious" is formed from the Latin "sequac-," or "sequax" (which means "inclined to follow" and comes from "sequi," "to follow") and the English "-ious." The original and now archaic meaning of "sequacious" was "inclined to follow" or "subservient." Although that meaning might as easily describe someone who willingly dropped into line behind a war leader, or who was unusually compliant or obedient in any sense, the concept gradually narrowed into the image of someone who blindly adopts ideas without much thought. Labeling a person "sequacious" is not very complimentary, and implies a slavish willingness to adopt a thought or opinion. See obamatron.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

i was talking to xsgirls last night and saying how it’s so odd, youth are supposedly so into being edgy and rebellious. well how is it that the majority of young people are leftwingers, when that is MAINSTREAM now. that’s the norm in popular culture etc. How are you so rebellious and different from your parents when voting for legalizing dope and gay marriage and thinking Obams is all that and a zillion bags o chips, when YOUR PARENTS AGREE WITH YOU? i would think that to truly be COUNTERCULTURE in today’s society is to be a conservative youth.

No need to apologize. Simply saying that I was right is sufficient.

You know a handful of votes in OH, VA, and FL, and we would have only been 5 EV's short.

And you know what, I’m seeing some thoughtful soul searching out there that I did not see after 2008. There was none after 2008.

Seeing it On all sorts of issues, especially foreign policy. This is a very good thing.

because after 2008 we chalked it up to white guilt/black pride. in 2012 people voted for him knowing he was a disaster on just about every score.

Rothfus beat out Critz in the former Murtha and Altmire districts which were combined. Lots of outside money in this race.

My county went for Romney, just like in 2008.

Dems took the statewide offices.

Funny you mention that as here is part of a text conversation from election night with an Ohio Repubican Staffer:

Me: The statehouse, how many did we lose
Him: Looks like just one, with 2 too close to call
Me: Not so bad
Him: Suppose in a relative sense
Me: Picked up PA 12 Congressional seat at least
Him: Ha.

I still can't believe the majority of this nation is so ****ing ignorant.

Like you, any time I am asked for substance, I will point them to 1600 Penn Ave.

Rothfus’ final ad was all about “He’s a regular guy, he mows his lawn, he drives his kids to school”

Pap. But that’s what the voters want, to know that their politicians are “like them” and “care about them.”

Yes. Which is why Pawlnety or Perry would have won this thing.

OK Ann C.

Still may have lost but would have done better. No more northeastern plutocrats. It doesn’t work.

You must have some regular guy / blue collar cred to win Ohio.

Someone like John Kasich.
