Max Brooks is gonna be mad....
But, the trailer looks pretty good.
Along the same lines I would love to see DMZ make it to theaters, or get made into a TV on AMC show at least.
“DMZ?” Whassat?
Thank you for the ping and the delightfully appropriate comment with regard to our current predicament.
Best ping I’ve gotten all week FRiend. Movie looks fun, but it’s nothing like the book, would have preferred an HBO miniseries, but at least this looks passable.
Were those super fast zombies? That was just freaky.
bfl
The WWZ book was very good, but thought the story (as written) would be impossible to translate into a movie for American audiences. A series maybe, but not a 2 hour movie.
I also agree with their choice of Fast Zombies for the Zombie Apocalypse. Never found the premise that slow moving zombies conquering the world compelling. For every zombie that showed itself, you’d have a 100 people with guns blowing the crap out of it.
That will always be the big plot hole in EVERY zombie movie or TV show.
What starts out as a couple of zombies cant be stopped by 6 billion people? Please.
bump for later. can you please add me to the ping list?
Swarming like FREAKING ANTS!!
YIKES!
OH! Okay.
Thanks.
Looks like a good movie. Thanks, RF!
Yer on. Thanks.
Yup. The vast majority of the living suddenly disappear in a matter of hours. As if no one has guns or ammo. And in a country this vast, the zombies always seem to mass around the survivors.
The only Zombie movie plot I ever found plausible was “28 Days Later” with the rage virus. A disease like that could actually have the advertised effect.
I kind of wonder if that’s what WWZ will be based on, as opposed to the (implausible) reanimated dead.
Please add me to the list. Oh, I hate fast zombies!
Yer on.
Thanks.
youtube Gray State when you get a chance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy7FVXERKFE
Good God I hope it doesn’t come to that!
But I’m not sure anymore.
Fiction is really starting to scare me.
Rule Number 1. Cardio...
Brad Pitt and the UN. Humanity is so screwed.
According to Max Brooks (The author of WWZ and The Zombie Survival Guide), the zombies were the result of a virus called Solanum. He gets into extreme detail in TZSG. This movie could follow that plotline.
LOL. A war on Obamabots running for free stuff:)
I’ve never heard of an Obamabot with that physical drive to achieve a goal.
Have you listened to the audiobook? It’s pretty good. Rob Reiner, Carl Reiner, Mark Hamill...
This is not fiction. Its what will happen if the EBT cards ever get turned off.
While I agree with both of your assessments, in part (not only armed populace, but also Spectre gunships and Daisy Cutters would wreck havoc on any swarming horde), keep in mind that over 6000 people die a day on average in the U.S. Immediate containment would be imperative, but not outside the realm of possibility in major cities for an outbreak to get out of control, at least initially.
The most realistic scenario is the one put forth in “28 Days Later”. A virus that renders people violently insane in under 1 minute and is spread by bites & bodily fluid. It would be very hard, if not impossible, to contain such a thing even with weapons of mass destruction.
The dead coming back to life (let alone being able to run) is just pure fantasy. But wouldn’t put it past some nation state to develop a “Rage”-like virus.
Forgive me. You’re correct that the dead re-animating and coming to hunt the living is a completely unrealistic scenario (over at Cracked.com they give several very good reasons as to why it would be short-lived, even if it could happen), and that a rage-like virus is how it would/could occur. I was speaking merely within the mythos of the zombie genre, and that within that mythos, slow moving zombies could become an apocalyptic threat. But in Real Life, no, no such thing could happen.
Agree. For every shambling zombie that showed itself, you’d have a hundred people pulling guns on it and blowing it to smithereens. You might initially have chaos, but the phenomonon would quickly become more of a sport than a threat. [”Shaun of the Dead” makes this point too]
