Every time I read this I am impressed that these instructors have given real thought to what they want to convey to the Middies.
I am interested in what others here feel could be great suggestions, and what they think may be MISSING from the list.
So lets share, what is great here, what should be here, and what is your next wish to read now that you have seen this list?
Don’t believe it. A reading list for Annapolis that omits “The Caine Mutiny” is a fake list.
Still there:
Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein (PS3515.E288 S75 1997)
Anybody who’s REALLY read this book understands how useful it is.

I hope there is a recommended list of Gay and Lesbian Studies ...
These mids need to be ready for the fleet in more ways than one...
Bump to print and review.
A little-known book. I bought it because of positive reviews on Amazon. It sits on my shelf but I have not read it yet.
Yes,indeed. I give a copy to every young person I know who is considering military service. It is a classic, indispensible take on what’s truly important in serving one’s country (or planet, as the case may be) and what drives the military mindset.

Just finished “Blood and Thunder” by Hampton Sides.
It is the story of Kit Carson, a small humble man, that opened the way for “Manifest Destiny”.
A hunter and explorer, he loved the people that were about to be overcome by racism and greed spread “from sea to shining sea”.
What a dumb thing to say. My USNA husband wasn’t a
“squid”. He was a Marine and the 889 grads of “73” have made all of us proud. Two don’t make the rest stupid.

Unfortunately, any young person who joins our military is going to be somewhat disappointed. Not by the lack of powered armor, jump suits, drop pods and mini-nukes, but by the utter lack of focus our military is given by its civilian leadership. Even when Heinlein wrote it, there wasn’t that clarity, but there were hints of it.
Bookmark.
I would say you found a bad one, in Carter and I wouldn’t call McCain’s service “Lame” , but that is a mighty wide brush to paint with, and I am not one to get on the bad side of Navy Seals and Force Recon Marines.
So your many years in the US Armed Forces must be so great right? You distinguished yourself as a heroic and honorable veteran of our military? You have a serious degree in an advanced field of study as well? Were awarded many distinguished service medals as a great veteran our or military? I can’t wait to hear the story.
Here is a nice list of HEROS that came from Annapolis.

Sounds like you’re mentioning the Halo universe.
Is Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card on there?
It used to be, but staff has changed, and this list slowly morphs. I would bet it will return again with a new instructor.
