I am pumped! Governor Perry just told Cavuto that Texas will NOT be setting up a health care exchange under Obamacare. He also raised the 10th amendment as the basis for the sovereignty of Texas as a state.
And he also gave a shout out for the Formula 1 race in Austin this weekend. I love this state!
Let those states that wish to leave secede from the United States
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/228/644/059/let-those-states-that-wish-to-leave-seceed-from-the-united-states/
It was a good interview. Perry looked tough and resolute. Impressive.
but did he look Presidential (craziest word of the year...Presidential)
He would have made a good president, too bad the debates were not his forte.
It will take more than a petition for a state to secede from the union. At some point, the state will have to convince people and business that they no longer have to pay federal taxes. And the state will have to defend them against the IRS. They would also have to immediately start their own immigration check points and keep the feds out of the state. The legal battle wouls go on and on.
If people and business (on a majority scale) stopped sending taxes to the fed, the fed would stop sending money to the state. This would essentially seal the deal for secession.
The process has a long way to go before we get there. If it gains momentum and starts to get serious, you can call me an immigrant.
He was allegedly medicated.
Rick Perry, making George Bush look like Einstein.
There are still a lot of things to do without secession, such as nullification and 10th amendment fights.
The problem is Obama will get to appoint some more Supremes...and Romney’s appointments wouldn’t have been much better on this score.
Actually, he can normally hold his own in a debate...just not immediately after back surgery.
Several of my SCCA buddies are in Austin this weekend for the F1 race. Lucky bastiches...
I joined the Texas Nationalist Movement. We have to organize and get a referendum before the voters for secession. Texas could be successful on its own.
You would think with 30 state Governors in our pocket we could press some Amendments.
A bad debate only hurts republicans. Didn’t hurt Obama. We tend to destroy our own people while the other side has it figured out.
“A bad debate only hurts republicans. Didnt hurt Obama. We tend to destroy our own people while the other side has it figured out.”
Nope. Folks don’t care what he says or does as long as they get their bennies.
Yup. That’s why they have it figured out.
“I joined the Texas Nationalist Movement. We have to organize and get a referendum before the voters for secession. Texas could be successful on its own.”
I don’t know about this. Obama likes to compare himself to Lincoln. Maybe this is what he wants.
This is what I don’t understand....often a state sues the Feds to make them stop doing whatever......why not simply say no. We refuse to implement whatever. Minimum wage for instance. Where in the constitution does it allow the Feds to set a minimum wage in Texas for instance? It doesn’t. Texas can set its minimum wage at $2 an hour...or have no minimum wage. Same with redistricting and the voting rights act. The constitution doesn’t give the Feds the authority to tell a state how to draw its congressional districts....other examples abound. No need for secession, just tell the Feds to go pound sand.
Too bad he blew those debates. He would have done a much better job connecting with the common people than Romney.
He LOOKED celebrity enough but didn’t ACT celebrity enough. It’s all up to the females and they decided he wasn’t CELEBRITY enough. Besides, he’s not METROSEXUAL because he wasn’t raised by a single mother or had a transgender cross-dresser for a nanny. He’s too MANLY and is big on TOUGHNESS and ACTION not WORDS.. So many strikes against him.
I agree with your sentiment, but the way the feds control the states is by threatening to withhold federal funds for education, highways, etc.
But when you go the secession route, you no longer care whether you get federal funds, because you will not then be paying all those taxes to DC.
In case there are non-Texans reading this thread, check out the Kaiser Family Foundation website to see what your state is doing re ‘state-created’ (Obamacare) health care exchanges.
http://statehealthfacts.kff.org/comparemaptable.jsp?ind=962&cat=17
They are already illegal in 14 states, not including TX, and AK.
According to Michael Cannon of National Review, states are better off defaulting to a federal exchange. Some of his other points:
* States are under no obligation to create one.
* An exchange would cost its state $10-100 million/yr.
*State created does NOT mean state CONTROLLED.
*Defaulting to a federal exchange EXEMPTS a states employers from the employer mandate — a tax of $2K/yr.
* Creation of state-created exchanges assists in the creation of a “public option” that drives health care carriers out of business thorugh unfair competition.
CONTACT YOUR STATE LEGISLATORS REGARDING THIS. STATE CREATED HEALTH INS EXCHANGES MEAN HIGHER TAXES, FEWER JOBS, LESS RELIGIOUS FREEDOM.
How dare Perry tell the “King” to shove his healthcare where the sun don’t shine.*sarc*
Of course he did. He is the President of Texas.
Link to Formula 1 race in Austin.
That should read $2K per worker/yr. Sorry.
the states could actually withhold the money from the feds until the feds agree with the states. Starve the beast. I would not mind Texas not getting any fed money as long as there were no funds from Texas going to DC. Once that starts, then the 10th amendment is relevent again and the Political Mafia is out of business.

If Texas ever really decided to go its own way, I doubt if
some SCOTUS justices wagging their fingers and admonishing
us to “stop please” would have much effect.
Some M1A2 Abrams tanks would. But, we will have already
convinced Fort Hood to join us by then. Hehe...
RTR!
He had to be on something when he had that poor performance in Mass., Maine, or Vermont, wherever that was because that wasn't his usual screw up when speaking - he was drunk or on heavy pain medication to cause that. I had never seen that behavior before - he was totally out of control.
I have been around him many years, and he does not speak well in front of a group. He has some stock statements but past that, he doesn't have a good command of language.
I knew the above but the Perry people on FR would attack me when I tried to tell them the truth. A president can't afford to use the wrong words when speaking with world leaders and Perry does that when when the correct word(s) doesn't/don't come to him.
He is okay in Texas but I don't think he can be on a world stage with the language problem.
We have a Republican majority in our Texas house and senate and I’m sure we will resist Hussein’s healthcare as long as it is possible.
Texas did reserve the right to secede when the state joined the union. I don’t believe any other state had that written into their statehood documents.
“I am wrong. I just looked it up on the Texas historical website. After the civil war, documents were signed readmitting Texas to the union and there is no language in that document permitting Texas to secede”
The only thing I’ve ever heard about Texas is that it can break up into smaller states if it wants to.
That’s what my son (in HS) keeps telling me. The good news...he knows his history.
BRAVO!!! Thank you Mr. Perry!!
And he also gave a shout out for the Formula 1 race in Austin this weekend. I love this state!
I love F1, but NASCAR is better!! (Go Brad Keselowski)
The thing that will move the key to START will be the EPA’s punishment of Texas. Perry’s pushing back on nobamacare exchanges is a good indication that Perry is going to be flying the COME AND TAKE IT flag.
At some point we’ll be at what we call a “Mexican Standoff” and I suspect nobama will be the first to blink. If not, what the hell, I’m with Perry, thick or thin.
Just asking because I don’t know. Can’t a future governor set up a health care exchange? Temporarily this sounds great, but he’s not going to be governor forever.
Hope you didn’t have or will need a Security Clearance.
Nothing against such movement, just better to “talk softly and carry a big stick”.
That word will never mean the same again... after 2008.
I give him credit and understand more of his voters’ loyalty.
Whoever is looking at 2016, better learn to not use the media machine or you will lose. By 2014 one should be able to use the internet for everything. This is why Obama will impose regulations on the internet in order to prevent the trut from getting out. Ron Paul was bang on in this regard. Tyrannical governments will oppress all outlets and Obama is already working on this task. I bet no one with a position in power paid attention to Ron Paul. Put the freaking white boards away, and get cracking on the internet. You may also want to hire some hackers to learn how to prevent Obamas thugs from bringing your system down. I bet he had hackers inside the Romany camp jack with their Orca project.
“Just asking because I dont know. Cant a future governor set up a health care exchange? Temporarily this sounds great, but hes not going to be governor forever.”
Well, not the governor so much. The governor position in TX is not real strong. The state legislature would have to draft legislation creating an exchange. Then the governor could sign, or veto the bill.
Wow, that is a sweet video! Make sure to select the 1080i HD option.
