Cyber attack reporting site, Anyone? (Vanity)

Posted on 11/17/2012 9:03:12 AM PST by Cold Heart

Wife's bank card was denied use yesterday. Bank said their on line service was not working.

I suggested Iran was mounting a cyber attack due to the war footings around Israel.

Wife said I was paranoid.

I did find a September article (FreeBeacon.com/iran-cyber-attacks-step-up) about Iran cyber attacking banks. Officials tried to blame The Video LOL but the article said it was Iran being upset about sanctions. Article said attacks were ongoing.

Any Freepers know of a good website that reports current cyber attacks?

I’ve repeatedly heard people disparaging the technical competence of iranians, arabs, and muslims, but over the years, many of our best engineering and scientific universities have educated these people.

This doesn’t surprise me... When I was in the computer science program at SUNY Stony Brook in the late 80s, the sciences, computer, and engineering classes were typically made up of about 50% asian, about 25% middle-eastern, and about 25% American students.

Thanks for the reply. My wife still thinks I am paranoid.

What do you call two ducks walking down the street followed by two noids?

A paranoid paradox

http://www.us-cert.gov/

It can get a bit technical but it’s a good list. Emails come out when activity pops.

Thankyou. I was thinking unless there were some very large obvious cyber hits that maybe those in the know would not want to report it till a month or so later.
Bookmarked the site.

I have been warned and now I warn you.

Keep no more cash in your accounts than you need every month to pay bills. Even if you have bills due the 1st and 15th, make deposits just days before they become due.

Pay cash when you shop.

Keep cold cash stashed in some place in your home that can’t be found. Get $50 bills not $100 bills. $50’s are easier to make change for.

(A false power outlet - in a roll of toilet paper - In a CD Case - In a Jar buried in your attic insulation) - (be creative.)

It is ONLY going to get worse as hard times have arrived (for some/many) and in short order it will become 100 time more likely due to the fact that the equipment necessary to access your credit cards are for sale on the open market.

They can use a pay phone (any cell phone or phone (they will NEVER use their home phone), to withdraw cash from your account and then they will go down and immediately withdraw it from “their other account” (in cash) then go to still another bank and deposit there.

That way it is not traceable.

I believe what you are saying. Can you give me the nature or background of the source which gave you the warning?

I wired my house myself. If I hide any money in an electrical socket it won’t be a fake one:)
