Mayan Doomsday 'Safe Zone' Shut Down

Citing fears that doomsday believers, curiosity seekers, and "above all" journalists will flood a French mountaintop on Dec. 21, the supposed day of the Mayan apocalypse, local officials are banning access to the mountain.

The spot, Pic de Bugarach, is rumored to be one of the only safe places on the planet on Dec. 21, according to Raw Story. On that date, a major cycle of the Maya Long Count calendar ends. The calendar is split into several chunks, including 400-year spans called b'ak'tuns. Dec. 21, 2012 on our calendar marks the end of the 13th b'ak'tun and the beginning of a new cycle.

One online rumor holds that on this day of destruction, Pic de Bugarach will open up to reveal an alien spacecraft, which will save believers nearby. That has local officials worried. [End of the World? Top Doomsday Fears]

"We are expecting a few visionaries, a few people who believe in this end of the world, but in extremely limited numbers," state official Eric Freysselinard told Raw Story. "We are expecting greater numbers of people who are just curious, but in numbers we cannot determine. Above all, we are expecting lots of journalists."

In response, officials will call in 100 police and firefighters on Dec. 21 to seal off approaches to the mountain, Freysselinard told Raw Story.

The Mayans were despicable people. Utterly reprhensible.

Bloody savages who reveled in human sacrifice on the one hand, but highly accomplished astronomers on the other. That is the only thing that gives me pause, that they may have been aware of some cyclical astronomical threat of which we are not aware. The skies would be getting much more active ahead of such a thing, imho, so I’m of the opinion now that this end of an age under their calendar does not represent a threat of that nature.

>> “for which we do not know the day or the hour” <<

.
We don’t know the day, nor the hour, but we do know for certain that it will be at the Feast of Trumpets, of a Sabbath year. That is why we are to watch. Read 1Thessalonians 5, and you will understand better. Paul tells the Thessalonians that they will not be in the dark as to that day.

I’m sorry your not following the conjecture, the 22nd is just the day after this Mayan nonsense should be debunked,

It could be one day or 120 years, as in the days of Noah to be ‘in the last days’

Matthew 24:37-39 KJV
“But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

The Mayan Calendar doesn’t say that it is the end of the world, just the end of that particular calendar cycle. The rest of the BS comes from the standard leftist/new ager sources.

I did a little looking into the whole thing when it started to become a popular phenomenon, and I took a particular interest in understanding just why certain Christian groups were validating it, most notably the Van Impes.

Their “ages” pass differently according to a system I never quite understood, but it’s not necessarily a pleasant thing for those living on this planet. End of the world would not be the correct description but disruption and upheaval would be.

That’s what had me concerned about some possible, cyclical astronomical basis behind these “ages,” considering their level of accomplishment in that area. As I mentioned above, the skies would be getting much more active ahead of such a thing if that were to be the case. I see no indication now in mid-late November 2012 that it is, so I’ve pretty well ruled that out, myself.

It gave me pause early on, I will admit.

I agree the fall feast days will all be fulfilled on the very day the feast is celebrated on the calender.

And like Jesus ascended to heaven 10 days before Pentecost when the Church was born, the Feast of Trumpets is 10 days before Yom Kippur,

1 Corinthians Chapter 10:11 KJV
“Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.”

Also for the final appointment, the whole world will celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles when Jesus returns,

Zechariah 14:16 KJV
“And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.”

That was one sick culture. The Conquistadors arrival was the best thing that ever happened there. Like cavalry arriving.
The arrival of the conquistadors, is like American soldiers liberating Dachau. The madness stopped.

It’s just a thought, certainly not a prediction, but given the fact that the Mayan prophecy has no Biblical basis whatsoever, wouldn’t it cause more of a falling-away (or at least create more doubt in Biblical eschatology) if something were to actually happen on 12/21/12?

Whatever the mind of man can imagine, will be not only be imagined but feared, rational or not.
The problems occur when the insane jump into the mix, and the longer I live, the greater my belief that a significant percentage of humans are insane to a greater or lesser extent. The proof is everywhere.

One can just as easily assert that it is also a fact that Biblical prophesy has no basis whatsoever in Mayan beliefs.

So what?

I would never succumb to my insane nature and assert that the Bible I believe in is more valid than the Mayan version. I believe in my faith nevertheless, and have no fears, uncertainty or problems with other cultures and their beliefs, so long as they don't continually attempt to kill me as a result.

Can you imagine a world where every world religion was as sick and insane as islam? I can't.
