One of the very toxic effects of big government socialism is the demise of private charity. Who wants to contribute when 47 million are on EBT?

How about free one way bus tickets south, to Mexico-—with a bag of Doritos to tide them over the line. Hasta la vista.

No kidding..

Sorry, but my compassion nerve has been severed. Go out and get some work, or quit having more kids you can't afford. Could care less what happens to you..and that's no joke.

Elections have consequences, and no doubt the parents voted for it.

If the food stamps weren't traded/sold/bartered for crack and lottery tickets, those who want to eat would have already had food....this is LUDICROUS to think people "starve" because they don't have help. They use their EBT's as cash at casino's, stores, etc., and have no shortage of drugs, but now want FREE FOOD COOKED FOR THEM?

This IS the mentality of the Democrat voterbase.

Exactly. I was behind one today....with designer EVERYTHING, buying two large turkeys a ham...over $200.00 of stuff...all on her Lone Star/EBT card. Disgusting. I wanted so bad to ask her to put my groceries on her card, too, since I was paying for both of us.

Every single store I shop, I get asked for a donation at the cash register. I used to give money or buy a meal for a family but no more.

I am done. I see too many people paying with a welfare card who are bedecked in gold, talking on iPhones and driving cars 15 years newer than mine or dragging around five kids they can’t afford to feed.

The herd needs thinning.

Oh really? If you care to really hear what people are saying, it's CLEAR that they're not stingy or mean or greedy ...they're tired of being screwed and taken advantage of.

If you think "tired of being screwed" is the same as mean and greedy then perhaps you're on the wrong site.

It’s not about being mean or greedy.
It’s all about the government displacing private charity and the corrosive effects of that.

A local tv station here in Indy got a file of Indiana issued TANF card transactions in ATMs. Hawaii, Vegas, NYC, Puerto Rico, Disney (Ca and Fl), etc.

I wonder what the percentage of grocery shoppers are using Uncle Sugar Sams money?

sure seems like I’m always the lone self-pay in every aisle I get in.

And usually the only one buying stuff on sale.

Saw a young mother buying a dozen CANS of potatoes the other day.

While I realize that some recipes might make that a bit easier, from the looks of the rest of her cart, I’d say I’m pretty safe in saying she had no clue how to peel and cook a raw tater.

why pinch pennies when you aren’t sweating for them?

Here’s how I look at charity groups these days: If I donated any money, there is a chance that some of it might go to a liberal and/or Obama-voter. And I just can’t risk that.

Anythng I donate now goes directly to a conservative individual or group that I personally know.

I believe the people you refer to are sick and tired of being taken advantage of those “in need” who vote for “those who promise to steal while putting future generations in debt”. To me, that is a hell of a lot more “mean and greedy” than posters on this thread.

That said San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission and Orange County Rescue Mission seem like worthy charities. The others seem to have a rather large overhead (Probably due to lobbying democrat politicians or “advertisement”).

My former neighbor went through a divorce and now lives on the dole. She gets $800 a month in food stamps. She says she can't eat $800 a month so she does things like have steak bbqs for her siblings or takes a sister to the grocery store and buys their groceries with the card and they give her the cash.

When married she was solidly middle class, she comes from a solidly middle class family. She is college educated. She has no problem with her new life style, she says "why should I work for $12 or $13 an hour and lose my medical coverage with the state?"

When I was getting benefits for food through an EBT card I couldn't buy any of those things. Now that I am no longer getting such benefits I am giving to my local Food Bank again.

There is an EBT that allows them to draw money from it like an ATM for a cash stipend; this is in addition to the food stamp benefit. These cards get used at places like cruise ships, casinos, strip clubs, liquor stores etc.

It is hard to feel sorry for a population (LA) that overwhelmingly votes itself more "benefits" forced from the taxpayer at gun point and then wants empathy for its woes.

This on top of a city/state that prides itself in being a "sanctuary" for illegal immigrant parasites.

"Any man that will not work, than neither shall he eat."

I have no problems donating to charity. I have no problems helping the poor. I have handed out money the world over, personally walked homeless into restaurants and ordered them food. I have also made sandwiches in my own home and provided them to a vagrant passing through my neighborhood; I also provided him with a change of clothes.

However, I DO have a problem when you steal 35% or more of the money from my wallet and then bitch and moan it isn't enough.

If that makes me stingy and greedy well TFB. I grew up piss ass poor in a trailer park; my step-mother worked a minimum wage job in a hardware store and my dad drove truck and did odd jobs between runs. We didn't eat the best of food, but we never went hungry and we never got a handout. And I worked for every last thing I have.

I still remember the day a few years back standing in a grocery store counting out my cash and trying to figure the most amount of baby food I could buy with the $8 in my pocket, so I would stay on budget and not withdraw more cash if I didn't need to. Especially since it was the end of the year and the "property tax" on the vehicles I already owned and paid taxes on had just come due and I wasn't expecting them to be as high as they were.

I approached the register. There was a girl in front of me that was my age. She was impatient when she ordered the clerk to "look again" under the register for more baby formula. Waiting was a terrible inconvenience to her and the TEN cans of formula on the counter were apparently not enough. After several more comments and dramatic gestures to insure the other customers were full aware of her displeasure she could not get the full number of cans she wanted.............she produced her WIC vouchers.

It totaled out to nearly $200 in formula. And here I was in line trying to be frugal and not withdraw more (OF MY) money than I needed to, wondering how I was going to budget to pay for the property taxes that were nearly $300 more than I was expecting; due the week before Christmas.

The fact is we have made being poor an incentive. Eventually the productive come to a point where enough is enough.

1st World problems of infertility? Hell the best fertility drugs in America are EBT and WIC.

I get that some people fall on hard times, but charity is not at the point of a gun and it makes it that much harder to give when the rest of the time it is forced.

They want benefits? Try voting for candidates that will give the BENEFIT of lower taxes for employers so they will be able to BENEFIT you with a JOB instead of the fruits from someone else.

Then more folks will find it easier to be more charitable again.

The greedy ones are those with their paws out for more our our money. The mean ones are those who sit on their couches for 50 years, never contributing one single thing to society, except breeding more criminals. If the lazy leeches would stop being so greedy, I might actually donate a few dollars. As it is now, it’s just as the OP said, almost all going to crack/meth addicts and illegal aliens and their spawn, at least in my town.

Maybe since they are in the same batch of lazy leeches and looters who overturned our healthcare system so that “contraception” would be available to all “for free” —— they should talk to their friends. Start with THOSE “freebies” and then come back in a few years and tell us if you are still so fake-poor.

This is a real generous group. Happy Holidays!!!!!!

You should hear the inmates' families when the visit the prison around the holidays. They brag about how many Angel Trees they sign up the kids, the dogs and little Suzy's imaginary friend for. One year, I wanted to teach the kiddos about giving so we adopted a woman at the nursing home. I was shocked that they gave us a woman who was basically not there and the nurses were already dividing up our presents for themselves before we were out of the room. Never again. I'm done with giving to humans. Now, we give items to the animal shelter.

The churches bring in and sponsor many immigrants. In my area, it’s the Assembly of God sponsoring refugees from Burundi Africa. Methodists and Catholics sponsor Albanians. Presyterian church sponsors a large congregation of Russian Protestants who dress like the Amish. The church announced that a local grocery chain donated 24 turkeys to the church, the Session said they will give a free turkey to all their food bank recipients this month. What about the rest of us who live frugally but can’t qualify for assistance, it’s always give give is what we hear.

Lately any cashier that asks me to donate a buck or two to charity gets a shock when I politely ask for the manager and tell the boss I wont be spending any money with them until they stop making their employees beg for money.

I have canceled my purchase in a couple instances. I usually don’t need the crap I am buying anyhow.
