Word For The Day, November 20, 2012
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
1. something that a person cannot conquer, achieve, etc.
2. an opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome
3. ( initial capital letter ) Classical Mythology . the goddess of divine retribution.
4. an agent or act of retribution or punishment.
[< Latin < Greek némesis literally, a dealing out, verbid of némein to dispense (justice); see -sis ]
get out and go where?
A foreign country might be a possibility for those with means: Central or South America.
More realistically a red state or a red area of a blue state.
I think of it as secession on a individual level :)
relocating to a foreign country is pretty risky it seems to me. Costa Rica is a longstanding democracy but do i want to bet my entire life savings on it by uprooting and moving there? i don’t know. TX is attractive to me, but until we retire, not really a possibility.
Cute idea - apparently our top spy agencies can’t handle more than one story at a time so they choose the most salacious over the most dangerous
I guess Obama’s been watching too much Arrested Development.
Me too - not really planning to shop on Friday but might have to give Walmart some business just for the sake of it
2012 let the cat out of the bag.
Romney won a bigger share of the white vote than Reagan or Nixon.
We are becoming a foreign country and our political risk is going to increase geometrically.
Now I’ll probably never become an ex-pat, unless I hit the lottery or something.
A cute idea would be someone getting the goods on Obama. Now THAT would be turning the tables on him. He is quite the stealth one. He had Patraeus on a string even before Benghazi. Once Patraeus resigned, he was out and outed. Imagine having a string on Obama and making him dance.
What boggles the mind is that Holly Patraeus is buds with Lizze the injun Warren. Now that is twisted.
Come to Pennslytucky. Our WalMarts are still monolingual. ;-)
I volunteered to be on duty Black Friday. I expect everyone will be shopping and the district quiet.
my SIL is going to have problems with TX in some respects i am sure. she has been railing about the foreigners already and she’s not even moved in yet! LOL!
plus no tax on clothes in PA~! that’s a huge selling point in my family.
Come on up to Grove City to hide during the inauguration and do some outlet shopping.
68 and sunny today, but rain on the way for the weekend...
As one who does have a real, living nemesis, I can embrace this word-
The unwashed, modern Roman mob
Embraced by ‘rats so tightly
Lives for bread and circuses
And the scandals on TV nightly
As soon as the party is over-
Because all things must end
The mob eill be Obama’s nemesis
Turning on a dime from friend
It happened to the Caesars-
And the French, to their chagrin
Ran out of pennies and kisses
And bought defeat, not a win
“Holly Patraeus is buds with Lizze the injun Warren”
Liberals of a feather whine together...
King of Prussia is closer : )
Ahn Yan! ROR!
Ain’t no Steeler store in King of Prussia.
I know you make frequent use of this word. It’s about time someone used it for the day’s word.
