Cheaperthandirt has a sale on a Windham Weaponry SRC .223/5.56 NATO on sale with a 16 inch barrel and 1 30 round magazine for $709 vs. their usual price of $897.
Any opinions on this rifle? Good deal? No?
There is also a Bushmaster Enhanced ACR .223 for $2100 vs. their usual price of $2479.
Why am I looking at this? Because their email appeared in my inbox.
Christmas is coming.
I’ll send you my address! Thank you in advance!!!
I’m kinda partial to older woman ...
Yes it is a good price. I prefer the 1/7 twist for the heavy bullets, but the 1/9 on this one is perfect for mil-spec ammo.
You will need sights or optics as this comes with none
For a decent, basic AR, I like the Bushmaster Optics-Ready Carbine. Add folding iron sights and a holosight later.
Windham was formed by the former Bushmaster folks after that brand name was sold. These are top quality ARs.
Interesting story I found on guns.com:
‘Long story short, Windham Weaponry used to be Bushmaster Arms. The owner of Bushmaster sold the company to Remington and then in early 2011, he bought it back and renamed it Windham Weaponry.’
Retail for this AR at guns.com ia $1040.
I bought one 6 or so months ago, no problems so far. Just clean the oil off before fireing for the first time to prevent jamming.
Good to know. It’s mostly about barrel quality these days, and stuff like ensuring the front sight or sight base is properly clocked. I think most of the brands source the receivers from four or five companies. Much more uniform fit and finish than in years past.
The things you learn here. I have a bushmaster and have been pretty happy with it. However I’d like to get a couple more and have been trying to figure out what I want. I’m leaning towards a piston operated one though.
Check Bud’s Gun Shop.
WHOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! :)
I’ll even be kind and ask for the cheaper one, OK? Thank you thank you thank you THANK you!
"Manufacturing" an AR these days is all about the logistics of sourcing parts from other companies. Even High Standard, maker of .22 pistols for generations, has a line of AR rifles.
The one at the top of the Windham list at Bud’s is in stock and appears to be just a few dollars more. Is there a difference aside from the size of the magazine shipped with the rifle?
He had a 5 year no compete agreement and a 5 year no move agreement that expired on the same day. When they moved the factory and fired the workers, they figured 77 was too old for him to come back.
Walmart has the 16” SRC for $799.
The one that really gets me is the consolidation of Marlin production in with Remington. Lots of complaints of plummeting build quality, inability to correct obvious flaws and crazy inexplicable screw-ups (like extra sight dovetails cut on the underside of the barrel).
I think they still have the DPMS AR at Walmart for $597. Also, Walmart has the Sig Sauer SIGM400 Enhanced Carbine Rifle (5.56 or .223 Caliber) for $867.00 on November 23rd (BLACK FRIDAY).
