What are your three favorite comedy movies?
All are the worst when shown edited for television.
The Princess Bride
McLintock!
Support Your Local Sheriff!
The Sons of the Desert
Time Bandits..
The Day After
The Creeping Terror
My Man Godfrey
Blazing Saddles
Three Amigos
Planes Trains and Automobiles
What About Bob?
Airplane
City Slickers
1. It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World
2. Blazing Saddles
3. Easy Money
We’re No Angels with Bogart
Dr. Strangelove
Miss Congeniality
I lose it every time I watch “Way Out West”. I start laughing just like Stan Laurel. LOL!
The In-Laws (the original, of course. Serpentine!!!)
Blazing Saddles (Excuse me while I whip this out...)
The Cheap Detective
I have a difficult time saying one particular flick is funnier than another...it depends on the mood one is in. For instance, I find Woody Allen’s “Zelig” very funny, but many people would not. They’d just consider it weird.
I also like “This is Spinal Tap”, “A Mighty Wind”, “Best in Show”, and “For Your Consideration”, but some people to whom I have recommended these pictures have watched them with a straight face and never cracked a smile.
So here are a few that I have enjoyed and believe many others would, too...they’re not necessarily “niche comedy” movies.
Funny Well Known Films:
“Murder By Death”
“Monty Python & The Holy Grail”
Any Naked Gun or Airplane! film
Now...very funny films you may NOT have seen, but are good:
“Amazon Women on the Moon”
“Rat Race”
“Walk Hard”
The Gods Must be Crazy!
McClintock
The Producers
1. “Animal House”,
2. “A Fish Called Wanda”, and
3. “The Other Guys”
Honorable mention:
1. “Annie Hall” (not strictly a comedy)
2. The tasteless “Kentucky Fried Movie”.
3. “Stripes”
4. “One Crazy Summer”
5. “Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life” (the bucket scene)
The problem with many comedy movies is that they get less funny when you see them subsequent times.
My favorite is the original
“Vacation”
I remember my Mother thought “The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming” was extremely funny. I later saw it and thought it was OK but still can’t figure why Mother loved it so much.
So many, hard to pick. Off the top of my head.
Office Space
Anchor Man
Brain Candy (Kids in the hall)
The King of Comedy
You Can’t Take It With You
Tropic Thunder
Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines
Cat Ballou
(or about anything with the Marx Brothers)
That is a great movie. "Serpentine Shel! Serpentine!"
“A Christmas Story”
“Fright Night” (1985)
“The Longest Yard” (1974)
“It Happened One Night”
“A Guide For The Married Man”
“American Graffiti”
I like the oldies:
Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House.
The More the Merrier.
A Christmas Story
Fletch
Monty python Search for the Holy Grail
Office Space
History of the World pt 1
So many more, but these I can watch over and over again.
I just remembered: “Young Frankenstein”
Also forgot about “The Gods Must Be Crazy” until I saw it mentioned. It was one of the few to make me laugh when I didn’t even want to.
Both Gods Must Be Crazy movies are great!
Schindler’s List.
its a mad mad mad mad world is #1 and I agree with a lot of the others.
I think Tom Cruise did his best performance ever in “Tropic Thunder”
I have a difficult time saying one particular flick is funnier than another...it depends on the mood one is in. For instance, I find Woody Allen’s “Zelig” very funny, but many people would not. They’d just consider it weird.

Now...very funny films you may NOT have seen, but are good:
“Amazon Women on the Moon”
“Rat Race”
“Walk Hard”
I really lost it when Shelly noticed the Kennedy signed photo with the Bay of Pigs reference.
The Gods Must Be Crazy
La Cage aux Folles
My New Partner
The Frisco Kid - Gene Wilder and Harrison Ford
BMFL
I could not possibly narrow it down to three, but some not mentioned yet:
Operation Petticoat
Buck Privates
National Lampoon’s Animal House
High Anxiety
A Fish Called Wanda
Ruthless People
Singing in the Rain
And Now for Something Completely Different
I’m All Right Jack
Galaxy Quest
“Mad Mad World” is good...it was re-made, in a sense, with a funny film called “Rat Race”...if you haven’t seen it but liked Mad Mad World, I recommend it.
Another flick, like MMW, that has lots of stars chasing after a treasure. :)
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum
Waterhole #3
The Flim Flam Man
Flim Flam Man
Smoke Signals
Airplane.
What’s Up Doc (one of the best chase thru San Francisco streets scend ever!)
The Gods Must Be Crazy.
That was another hilarious part. “At least we tried.” LOL! And then there are those Jose Greco Flamenco Dancers of Death tetse flies.
Matthau and Lemon — Out to Sea
Blazing Saddles
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Groundhog Day
Now that I think about it, a pretty diverse group.
I laugh til I puke when I watch them...
Blazing Saddles
Vacation
Used Cars
Liar Liar
Ted
Grown ups
No other film is even near the perfection of those three I chose.....you can try, but you will fail.
The Party. Peter Sellers
